How do prestige RG series compare to JEMs?

In terms of quality, hardware etc...? I'm specifically interested in the RG2550MZ but if anyone has another prestige RG and/or JEM then feel free to contribute.

I've been looking at possibly buying one of the aforementioned guitars (either of them) and was just interested in how the stack up against one another...

Cheers,
Steve

If you're comparing new to new, everything RG will now be Edge Zero and the JEM will be Edge Pro, but the biggest playing difference is the fretwire. 6105's on the JEM is much smaller than the Jumbo on the RG, and the biggest difference for players to get used to.

BTW if anybody is interested I have the 2550MZ and 2570MZ Euro models in stock.

That's interesting and useful to know, I much prefer jumbo frets.

Then of 'course, there is the tonal difference between Alder bodies and Basswood.

I have just recently learned that I am an Alder body guy and Basswood annoys me.

Why, how would you discribe the difference? Alder, brighter: basswould, more bassy?

I think the model you mentioned also has the DiMarzio/IBZ pups? The EVO's in the Jem would be of a much higher quality IMO.

Alder slightly brighter with a tighter low end, while basswood seems to have more pronounced mids. My only Ibanez has a basswood body but I still love it as much as my old Jackson JS30 and DK2M which have alder bodies.

How exactly can one Dimarzio be "higher quality" than another Dimarzio?

Dimarzio/IBZ pickups are made by Ibanez under the patent and licensing of Dimarzio

Not really

Do you like the tone of every single Dimarzio pickup?

The quote was "higher quality". The IBZ/DIM is 100% as high a quality any every other Dimarzio, made in the same country, in the same town, in the same building, as every other Dimarzio, using the same parts as every other Dimario. How can anything about it be of lesser quality?

I wouldn't call it "much" thicker. According to the ibanez.com website differences are like 1mm.

Re: How do prestige RG series compare to JEMs?

I like the RG3620Z. The neck seems to be the thinnest one they make.
Scale/Length 648mm/25.5"
a: Width at Nut 43mm
b: Width Last Fret 58mm
c: Thickness 1st Fret 17mm
d: Thickness 12th Fret 19mm
Radius 430mm

The Jem:
Scale/Length 648mm/25.5"
a: Width at Nut 43mm
b: Width Last Fret 56mm
c: Thickness 1st Fret 19mm
d: Thickness 12th Fret 21mm
Radius 430

Re: How do prestige RG series compare to JEMs?

my main axe is an rg2550z and the other day i played an rg3570z (i think), the blue one with yellow tone zone and air norton and oh my GOD do they kick the dimarzio/IBZ pickups.

i'm aiming to get a paf pro in the neck and a tone zone in the bridge.
