IMO, they should break the production down like this:

Desert Sun Yellow - 1000
Road Flare Red - 980
Black - 7

Hopefully, if there's a mad scramble for them, then they will make more.

And maybe even bring back maple fretboards and colours like RFR, DY, LNG...

That would be awesome, but aren't they making most of them black? Pretty stupid seeing as how it's DY and RFR fanatics (mostly DY IMHO) that'll be flocking towards these things...and why the **** does the year they orirginally came out have to dictate how many they make, I just don't understand thier logic...

It's an anniversary. They're celebrating the originals, hence the original colour schemes, original neck specs, original bridge. The originals came out in 1987, so they're making 1,987.

It's easy to understand, but it's stupid. The demand is high, the supply is low. A lot of people are gonna be unhappy. They made too few, especially considering that hardly anyone wants a black one, plus the black one is already pretty similar to something you can just go out and buy off the shelf, such as the RG2550. They made some bad moves. Hopefully they'll eventually understand the demand is sat there waiting and they actually need to start addressing that demand. A DY guitar in full production would sell incredibly well.

1: Take one RG2550 Prestige and put a maple board on it.
2: Paint it in some nice colours like DY and RFR (LNG would KILL).
3: Add a matching headstock.

Pretty f*kin simple if you ask me.

I do agree with you, I think that the 2550 is a great guitar (had mine for over a year now, never looked back since) and I think that adding some of the old flourescent colours and a maple 'board would genuinely sell very well.

Although I do see it from Ibanez's point of view; maybe they are unwilling to take the commercial risk.

Oh well, here's hoping. The reissue is at least a step forward... and not that long ago they did bring back a maple 'board into the range (albeit on a lower-range RG, nothing wrong with those IMO though). So we can only wait and see.
