Ibanez RG

Hey there guys.
I'm having a spot of trouble in deciding which RG guitar to buy.
I pretty much play anything and everything and i'm in a jazz trio, a neoclassical metal band and a Rage Against The Machine Covers band.
I have chosen to buy an RG because they are very versatile guitars.
My question is which one should I get?
Like i've mentioned i want it to be very versatile but i'll be honest i actually find the RG1570 (which alot of people recommend) very ugly.
Please help.
Cheers.

Well, how about this, then? I think it's a bit more expensive, though.

Re: Ibanez RG

I just noticed that on that dv247 site the RGT220z is more expensive than the universe! What's going on there?

Get a 2550. Get it in black. Get a white pickguard. Bob's your uncle!

Re: Ibanez RG

I'm new here so I didn't expect so many replies in so little time haha.
The RGT220z is a gorgeous guitar and was on my shortlist. Pricey but well worth the money me thinks. I was also considering the 320q but i like the idea of an ash body. Makes a change from the usual basswood in the range.
I'll still have the problem of the killswitch for the rage stuff mind. Would a local tech be able to wire the 5 way switch in the following way?:
1: Off
2:Bridge Humbucker
3: Both Humbuckers
4: Neck Humbucker
5: Off
I was thinking this way i can do alot of the toggle switching which i love experimenting with and also getting a pull pot on the tone for the same settings only singlecoil.
What do you guys think of that?
Cheers.
Man i've written alot here

the wonderful thing about a good guitar tech is that they can do pretty much anything you want

Re: Ibanez RG

They could probably wire it that way, but I would probably just have them actually install another switch if I was going to put one it. It is literally just drilling in an extra hole and there should be plenty of room in the control cavity for it.

Re: Ibanez RG

I agree with Matheau, I wouldn't want my killswitch to be part of my pickup selector, it would be quite awkward, and limits pickup selection options.

The best ones I have used are a press button type thing, with the signal being killed when the button is pressed in. It's much easier to get that choppy RATM thing going on with this setup.

Hope this helps.

Rock on!

Re: Ibanez RG

I'd say installing an extra switch is more practical. Plus if you do that, you can get an even greater range of sounds with the addition of a push/pull pot, seeing that you have five ways of switching you can select and split instead of three.

Re: Ibanez RG

In that case I may have a hole drilled in the centre of the 2 existing volume/tone knobs and have the setup as volume, tone, killswitch.
That would leave me alot more options in terms of tone.
Thankis guys.
