Identify this RG

Hey

I was in a music shop today for ages (the shop workers must have thought I was crazy, walking around the shop for so long) while I was waiting on someone, and I saw a really nice RG hanging on the wall (as a matter of fact, I saw lots of nice guitars on the walls...). It was black, with a black quilted/flamed maple top (the pattern looked a little tighter than many quilted models I've seen, but not quite as regimented as flamed, so I'm not sure which side of the fence it sits on), maple fretboard, marker dots not in the middle of the frets, but as the side and made of what looked like abalone or similar.

I stole this pic from the J-Customs thread, I hope whoever posted it doesn't mind. The guitar I saw was almost exactly like that, except with black hardware and a maple fretboard (on second thoughts, that's quilted maple, isnt it?).

The pickups didn't have anything written on the top of them that I could see, and it said 'Prestige' on the headstock, nothing else (except perhaps RG, I didn't look for that logo though).

Anyone got any idea what this thing was? It was selling for £1200 btw, if anyone is interested - I can't afford that, I'm not looking at buying, I just want to know what it is.

Thanks
tTz

Re: Identify this RG

Sounds like a RG2680M. I'm not too sure if RG3120's ever came with a maple board.

Re: Identify this RG

Like i said bro, a shot in the dark, My old 3120 had a maple board tho [1] 2680 sounds right tho, as i assume it was "FLAMED MAPLE" so it fits well

Rob

Oh, I'm a total absolute utter idiot, I forgot to mention something. Serial number started F03, so that makes it 2 years old, assuming my understanding is correct. I really should have mentioned that already, sorry.

Re: Identify this RG

Just looked up RG2680, the black flame maple version looks pretty close. Specs match up with what I thought all the parts were, down to the mahogany body (was a bit heavier than basswood). I'm not convinced the top was flamed maple, as in all the pics I've found, it looked more like the RG in the original post, but then I suppose all maple caps are slightly different.

RG2680 it is then!

One last question, out of interest: Isn't £1200 rather steep for that guitar?

Re: Identify this RG

Err, Yeah ! i'd say so being as you can get pretty much any 2nd hand J-Custom for that price ! In fact £1200 would buy most Sig models 2nd hand too

Rob

P.S. I'm a tightarrse so i'd pay less than £500

Re: Identify this RG

Well I don't know if it actually was 2nd hand, since it may just have lay in the shop for a few years. If it was second hand, I would have thought it would have been marked down a bit tbh (they had an RG470 with Seymour Duncan pickups, Lo-TRS trem tho, for £300 if that's any indication of their pricing schemes).

Hmm, no matter. I was just curious.

Yeah maybe i should emphasize (sp?) the word "I'M" not "have"

It may well have sat around for awhile, And even new, I reckon it'll be sat there for a few more years at that price

Rob

Re: Identify this RG

It was a nice guitar though.

I want one of them now too...along with about 50 other guitars, and 20-odd amps.

:edit:

And the worst thing is I can't play guitar just now, so I'm left wanting, but totally unable to have!

Re: Identify this RG

It could be a 3270M, but then that's got a flamed top.

You could have asked though, they wouldn't have eaten you.
