Inlay on Prestige S guitars?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew what the inlays on the 12th fret of the current Prestige S guitars are made of? Is it some kind of acrylic/plastic or some kind of pearl/abalone...? Any help would be appreciated.

I belive it is both: plastic pearloid and real abalone. That is what is on my SZ4020 inlays at least so I would guess they are the same ones on the other PRestiges with similar 12th fret dots.

I don't have any nice close-ups of mine but someone else might have pics to post of theirs.

One can assume that they're made of the same material. They look the same, yeah.

Well, that's a bit of a bummer. You see, I LOVE the new S2170 in purple chameleon. But seeing that I'm vegan, I shy away from buying pearl/abalone.

I have a few Vegan friends and i've never seen them drop a tear over any of their many abalone inlayed instruments. Besides, it's as they told me " people are going to eat and or kill these sea critters regardless of whether or not we play guitars with abalone on them. It's a jewel in nature and i'd much rather a guitar inlayed with it than encrusted with blood diamonds from africa"

Anyways no mean to argue here i just thought i should tell you that you shouldn't stop yourself from buying something made from an animals shell. I know it might seem like they are hunted just to be decorative, but many people enjoy eating them much more than the colorful phenomenon inside the shells.

Either way i really like the new S and i might just get one this year if the new zero bridge has a much more sturdy bar and harness.

That's an interesting thought. People said they had the same point of view in a recent thread about abalone, too.

I don't know... I just don't feel right about it. I might change my mind, though. I'll see.

Very well put. I was thinking along the similar lines but wasn't sure how to express it but you hit the nail on the head.

Well, I've decided to go ahead and buy the purple chameleon S, if it's as cool as I think it is.

From the pictures below I get the idea it's a more subtle chameleon effect than on the Xiphos, but I'll just check one out and see if it is what I think it is. Anyway, if I end up getting one, I'll post a thread with tons of pics and a video! Thanks again for the replies, guys.
