J Custom neck joints

I know that they are more contoured than the Jems but can you really feel the difference. I've been questioning my descision to go with a J custom lately but high fret access was one of my issues with the Jem. I play a Schecter so I'm used to zero heel.

This is off topic but can someone inform me on import taxes? Ishibashi said shipping would be 16,000 yen, do they include taxes in their US shipping prices? If not how much is it going to cost me because if this guitar gets into the $2000+ range I'm not going to bother.

Re: J Custom neck joints

Import duty into the US, due when the guitar is delivered, is 8.6% (at least it was on mine if I recall). This has nothing to do with Ishibashi and everything to do with the US government. Ishibashi does not charge any taxes on international orders.

From my experience with my RG8670 I would say you can't go wrong with a JCustom, nicest guitar I have ever played. Which one are you getting?

Not all J-Customs have the AANJ-S neck joint (J-Custom neck joint aka AANJ Special). It is more contoured and you can totally feel the difference between that and a Jem or any guitar with a regular AANJ.

If you get taxed on anythin it'll be the base price of the guitar not the shipping.

Re: J Custom neck joints

There is a noticable difference in feel but I don't think it really made playing the higher frets easier, just a little more comfortable. I sat down with my RG-PR1 and RG550 to feel the difference between the AANJ and the J-Custom AANJ and it wasn't too different. Now, as far as quality, overall feel, and sound goes... there is a night and day difference!!!

Re: J Custom neck joints

Thanks for your help. One last question though, what is a reasonable discount for a display guitar? Ishibashi said that they have some available and it looks like a good opportunity to save some money.

Re: J Custom neck joints

I'd say minimum of 10%.. if they give you 5% it isn't worth it. But hey, the bigger the discount the better!! Make sure it's either an extra 10% off thier existing price(or get them to waive the shipping).
