Re: J-Custom & Prestige confusion - What makes a J-C a J-C?

I've been doing some research, j.custom seem to use a Mahogany back body rather then basswood, which is the body of the prestige. I'd love to try a J Custom. do they sell it in North America as well? or strictly Japan?

Re: J-Custom & Prestige confusion - What makes a J-C a J-C?

I recently found a js 1000 custom. Its blue and obviously its was made in
japan, has a solid maple neck and the pickups are paf and humbucking?
(you can pull the knobs up and go from single to double)
I have a 10 year old js 100 which plays nice and sounds nice, but it was made in korea, and the pickups which sound pretty good, im not sure what they are, the bridge pickup knob pulls up to go from double to single
the shop is sellin the js custom for about 1400$, what about trading my js 100 AND my jsx amp with a marshall for this custom? i paid 800 for the jsx head used, 300 for the marshall cab and 700 for the js 100 10 years ago...
is the js custom worth it? i actually think my js 100 sounds better, but the js 1000 custom wasnt setup went i played it...help! any advice appreciated...oh i cant really use the amp and cab much here in korea, and i have a Gnx4 which works great just going to the pa system...

imv, J-Craft oversees the line of J-Custom and Prestige(Considering both comes with J-Craft Certs/Cases/Authetication tag).

J-Custom makes more exotic(diff woods, finishes) guitars that are only available in the Japanese market.

Whereas Prestige is the mass market variety not only for markets outside japan, but inside as well.

Yeap, someone explained this to me before

So, i have just purchased a 1996 JS-CUSTOM JS1000 satriani model, so im assuming this is identical to an (otherwise) normal js1000 but just labelled differently for a different market???

It has a `js custom` badge on the 21st fret.....

Everything else looks the same, spec wise....

the older JS was made in the US. The JS after 2000s are relocated to Hoshino Gaki, as with all custom models available for sale(eg Jem, EGEN, AT, MTM, Apex)

J-Custom is only available within the Japanese Market. and IS DIFFERENT from the Prestige Line which is available anywhere.

So Team J. Craft isn't a J-Custom ?
Is it a J-Custom but just renamed for overseas distribution but the same quality ?

Interesting thread. I went thru every page and read about 70% of the posts. Now i know if i see a J-Custom in a store anywhere I should take some serious time to check it out.
