J-Customs in UK?

To all those who own one in the UK, did you have to import it or did you get it from somewhere here? And if so do they have a website?

Cheers.

I have a friend who bought one a couple of years ago through headstock distribution. They are the main Ibanez supplier for the UK.

Importing is how I got a few which I sold on for a tidy profit. There a few sellers on the Bay from Japan who are selling them. If there are any UK dealers selling them they will charge ridiculously high prices. GuitarGuitar had one in(8470 I think) awhile back and they were charging around £1700.

Ishibashi or Ikebe Gakki, they sell loads of J Customs, I bought a few from them. Alternatively, there are a few sellers on the Bay I know who sell them too. Rich has a few in aswell and he(Unlike others) will give you an instrument ready to play.

Now and then a few pop up on the UK Bay though.

Some places like turnkey/Soho Soundhouse in London and Cranes in Cardiff sell 'em.

I'm afraid not, both have rosewood boards. The two guitars I may sell with maple boards are an RG and a PRS.

I went to Cranes the other week, it looks like they've stopped stocking Ibanez entirely. They have the full range of Caparisons now though.

Re: J-Customs in UK?

My first hand ones are from Ishibashi, my second hand ones off the usual auction site. UK street prices are usually between £100 and £400 over the full price of importing from Japan (and that's after tax, duty, shipping etc). Only price remotely close to Japanese prices were the RG8320s at £1199 from www.guitar.co.uk (now sold out).

Sounds Great in Heald Green had a couple in when I popped in in December - RG8570 that's been there forever (natural finish, thick neck) and a newer RG8270 in Vintage Violin/Fire Agate. Other than that only ever spotted them in Denmark St in London in person.

Online searches show gak.co.uk have RG8320s in stock, but the price is high.

In all cases it would be cheaper to order from Ishibashi, Ikebe or Kurosawa, although since the pound has fallen from 250 yen a few months back down to 215, everything's a lot more expensive when imported. In my experience Ishibashi are great to deal with via email right through to purchase; Ikebe either don't answer my emails or reply too late, (but their website is great to browse for new gear) and from the one enquiry I made with Kurosawa, they seemed responsive.

Failing that, search for j-custom on the 'bay. Good luck!
