I've found I'm just used to the 'sharp' fret ends. Always feels weird playing a Prestige or a US Fender, like there's something that's just "not there".

They may not have been rounded but they certainly weren't sharp.

If you want sharp frets play a Gibson or a BC Rich. Last BC rich I played I cut my hand on a fret.

Re: Just ordered the 770DX RR & LB

ok i didn't mean cutting sharp, just sharp. but as i'm a round-fret-ends freak (i use to round off the fretboard edge too), to me they're always too sharp while for others are just not-rounded
but i can tell that all the RG20ths i worked on (not many, though) were way sharper on the fret-ends than on the (amazing) GRG170s, for example.
i'm not putting cr*p on the wonderful RG20th, i love it all the way and thank Ibanez for making it.

Mine is on the way as well. I ended up getting just the red one instead of both. Can't wait!

I'd take the red if I had my choice, at the moment I don't.

I'm still GASsing for the RG3520z.

(I will get to pickup my new Deluxe Tele next month though - Woohoo! )

Re: Just ordered the 770DX RR & LB

Is anyone being told that they have to buy both the red and blue, because the distributor has to sell them as a pair?

Just curious. I ran into this after I placed my order with Guitar Center. I only ordered the red one, but they also had to get the blue one. I don't have to buy the blue one, but it'll be there when my red one gets there.

Also, I was told that it's scheduled to be there the beginning of September.

Re: Just ordered the 770DX RR & LB

Congrats to those of you that are getting one. They look really nice. After purchasing my RG550RFR 20th last year, I'm totally sold on the RG and the vintage colors.

Just curious though, could someone please summarize the "playing" differences between the 770 and the 550? (the visual differences I can see: different inlays, color matched everything, clear pickguard - vs. the 550). Where is the extra money spent on the 770 that makes it several hundred $$ more than the 550? Pickups?

Thanks!

You basically nailed it with the visual stuff but missed the bound fretboard. In the Ibanez book they stated the 770dx's were a "production headache." My $.02: the extra cash is for the colored matched knobs/tip, pick-ups and the "production headache" stuff. And let's not forget the sweet Prestige case that it comes with.

Front routes and rear routes sound different.
