Front routed guitars sound more "nasal" due to the way the pickups sit on the pickguard over the route cavity. Rear routes sit directly on the body, on pickup rings, or in the 770DX's case on a pickguard mounted to the flat surface. At least, that's how I hear them.

Yeah, it was in response to your post. I didn't understand what you meant. (and am still baffled - noob syndrome). I have an RG550 (20th) and an SZ320EX. How are they "routed"?

The 20th's pickups are attached to the pickguard where the new 770dx's are mounted directly to the body. There will be a (+) difference in favor of the 770's but that's subjective. (I see a thread derailment coming along.)

Re: Just ordered the 770DX RR & LB

i havent been able to directly compare two guitars(one with front routed and one with rear routed) with same pickups and what not..but given that the pickups are different in my 20thrg and my rg3120. the 3120 does feel 'harder' and the 550 feels more 'spongy' but at the same time the 550 has more brightness(which i think is due to the frettboard) and the 3120 darker....but then again they are different woods and pretty much not the same guitar at all so i cant compare the two...

...therefor making this post pointless @.@ but what the hey

Re: Just ordered the 770DX RR & LB

I called my guy at Guitar Center on Thursday and he told me that it would be the first week of October, but it could be a bit sooner. He says GC has a habbit of over shooting the date.

Sorry bro. I too was hoping early September. Not like we haven't waited long enough, huh?

Re: Just ordered the 770DX RR & LB

Just heard from american musical, they said Ibanez pushed them back to October 3rd now. Can't say I'm surprised, since the RG550 got delayed almost 4 months. I hope there isn't anymore delays though.

I wanted one of these as well until I found out they have the bulky neck-body joint heel, rather than the all access necks. Might as well buy a Dinky.

Did you not know that they were reissues before you found out about the block heel?
