Just scored an RG2020x

got it off ebay for $705. It's just a little over a year old and has one little ding in the finish. Plugged the mags into a peavey 5150II with vintage 30's and the piezo into a trace elliot TA35cr acoustic amp. Couldn't be any happier!!! I would like to replace the pups with a duncan custom and a dimarzio air norton. i love that combination!

btw, does anyone have a schematic for the weird 5 way? it looks a little intimidating. the stock pups have 2 wires plus ground. how can i convert that into 4 conductor wiring?

Congrats

I would let a pro handle the wiring. I have tried myself to put a TZ7/AN7 in my RG2027x that has the same wiring as your RG2020x and after that my piezo was offline. I haven't been able to get it right again. The problem is that you have to unscrew the 5-way switch from the body in order to be able to solder.

It is possible to do it yourself, but I would make clear pictures of the before situation. I had a wire schematic, but reality proved somewhat different.

You shoud check the pickups and wiring section. I jsut got a bunch of useful info about how to wire the guitars. I have the otax 24 pole switch in my guitar.THe consensus is tha the switch is actually a good one but takes alot of care to wire correctly.

Ibanez has the stock wiring diagram .Check that out at ibanez .com

The V8 in the bridge is 3 wires. One hot, one tap, and one ground.THe V7 neck is 4 conductor. All oyu have to do to get DImarzios in there is wire the corresponsing colors exactly where the existing V8 and V7 are.

You wont be able ot do a good job unless you loosen the switch and work on it like that

Hello and congrats with the new guitar!

The 4 conductor wiring for the bridge pickup, has to be as follows:
Red, where the stock pickup is hot, then black and white together, where the stock pickup has its split point, and green and bare to ground.

The neck pickup has to have the same connections as the stock 4 conductor pickup. I did this to my 2020x and it works great.

I had no problems with the piezo not sounding.

Even so, it is a great guitar and well worth the money. I sold all my Jems and still have my prestiges so that should tell you where the value is.Atleast the value for me.
