Let down JEM7vWH for J-C ???
Hello!!
I'm really hesitating for the moment, but after seeing all these wonderful J-Custom, i really would to have one (or two
), but in this case i need to sell my 2 Ibanez JEM 7V wh...
I always loved Jem7 because the design is really INCREDIBLE and the vine perfect. I really would to get a sound close than Vai's sound, but I don't know if a day i'll be able to reach it...
So I'm hesitating...I never had the opportunity to play a J-C, so i hope you guys will be able to advise me!
See you

The quality, fit and finish will be at least as good as your Jems. You have a lot of options in the JC line - you might want to try to play a few and see if they are what you're looking for before you give up your Jem. If your goal is to try to catch Vai's tone, stick with the Jem. If you want a guitar with a vine in something other than white or black, you can't go wrong with a JC.

don't sell your two jem7vwh to get a jc. if you cant get vais sound with the guitar he plays you wont get it with a guitar he doesn't play.

Stick to the Jems. You won't be getting a better guitar necessarily, just a
different
guitar with the JC. A Legacy would be one way, but check around the forums for advice on getting that sound before you go buy a new stack! And of course, a lot of people believe that the tone is really dependent on the person playing. I'd just find a tone YOU like and be happy with it.

Though J-Customs are really nice, I wouldn't sell two nice guitars for one J-Custom. I don't think J-Customs are going to be discontinued any time soon . . . so why not stash a little cash away each month? Someday you will have enough to buy one. It will make all that more special on the day it arrives. You'll have just have happy feelings without regret.

+1!
You can also sell 1 Jem and get a JC so that you'll have 2 great guitars that cover a wider sonic spectrum.

Re: Let down JEM7vWH for J-C ???
J Customs are much higher level guitars than any current Prestige. While Prestige Q has seriously declined, if the JC's have at the same time it's to a much lesser degree. But Mahogany is predominent. There are some different wood current store models but they're very limited production, and the alternate wood JC's from 98'-01' are no where near the quality of the following. If you want that mahogany tone you couldn't do much better. If you want alder tone you might as well stay with the JEM.

Re: Let down JEM7vWH for J-C ???
Thank's a lot for all your replies
I would to change "just" because that I have the feeling that mahogany and flame top are better than any other woods for guitars :/
Yes, about my 2 jems, it's a little different hehe. When I want a guitar, I'm obliged to buy 2 same models: one for playin' and the other for collection...I dunno why, but i feel that i'm in security with 2 same models. If one is seriously damaged for an unknow reason, the other will be ready to scream
I'll receive in few days my VOX AD 50 VT XL, do you think I could be close to Vai's sound with it? I didn't tried this amp, I bought it by thomann. I hope I didn't bought it for "nothing"
Thank's for advance fro your help

Trust Rich, trust J Custom! JC BEATS JEM for sure, especially the hand crafts. JEM is the massive production guitar. Good looking and Vai's sound, BUT THAT'S ALL! J Custom is the top quality hand made guitar from Custom Shop! IMO, 97-02 are the best!

Re: Let down JEM7vWH for J-C ???
I wasn't so impressed with my JCs that I bothered to keep them. They were really nice, they just didn't do anything for me or make me feel I had to play them. It's personal preference, but I'm much happier with my '01 VWH than I was with any of my JCs.

Re: Let down JEM7vWH for J-C ???
the 7vwh is the best guitar on the planet if you ask me.i miss mine but i found the neck very uncomfortable.every time i played a fast run anywhere on the fret board my wrist was in agony with cramp.evo and alder is a awsome combination.ive played some mighty fine guitars over the years but that 7vwh was very special.

Re: Let down JEM7vWH for J-C ???
Okok, I really prefer JEM vine than JC vine, even if i really would that the jem vine was full of abalone instead of plastic...
