a little advice if possible :)

hi guys, i was hoping for a bit of advice on a couple of RG's.

its been quite a while since ive had one so i thought id get a decent one to back my suhr up.
at the moment i have my eye on a JEM70v, and a RG2820CT.
pros and cons for me:

JEM70V:
pros - looks pretty awesome, ideal pickups and hardware config for gigging, a little cheaper
cons - questionable quality, likely spending money on an expensive set up

RG2820CT:
pros - beautiful guitar, preferable 3 way toggle for personal playing, rare, prestige build quality, preferable pickup/wiring config for personal playing
cons - a little more expensive, not ideal for me for gigging

right off the bat i would have said the prestige is the way to go, especially since the quality of the jem70v's seem to be a bit hit and miss. however from what ive read, as long as you get them set up properly theyre a really good guitar. could they be considered as good as the RG2820CT prestige once set up properly?

the main problem i have with choosing an rg in general is that really speaking i need a H-S-H config in order the most diversity for gigging. i also need an edge/edge pro etc.. because i will want to fit a tremol-no too. this is one of the reasons the jem70v is one of my options and not any other new ibanez.

i suppose the main reasons im considering the RG2820CT is because its a limted run and its very pretty piece. (i also prefer 3 way toggles even though that config isnt particularly good for the stuff the band plays).

i have looked at other prestige RG's, but most are either not really to my taste, or dont have the preferred hardware.

any opinions on the jem etc... would be awesome

Have to say the RG2820CT is a really nice looking guitar. Edge Pro is a good trem. But i like the OE better. In the jem you get hotter pickups and also the H-S-H that you like. But i can't help you choose. I have never seen the RG2820CT up for sale, but i guess there market is bigger in US.

Re: a little advice if possible :)

I've got Ibanez guitars with OE and Edge Pro, neither one is better, they both rock!
Lo Pros are great too.

I have a JEM70V, it is the last JEM I'd buy.
I have many other JEMs, if you are looking for a less expensive JEM, go for the JEM7DBK or a JEM7BSB, you can get them in the $700 - $1000 range.

yeah the only reason i dont want an edge zero 2 is because i need to fit a tremol-no, wouldnt be bothered otherwise because i hear that its a good trem.

the last JEM you'd buy because its so good, or not good? i really like it but im just having doubts about the quality of them. im not too bothered about having to set up right, its more the poor finishes they seem to have. i'd get a prestige jem if i could afford one, and unfortunately im not a fan of a few of the cheaper ones.

Re: a little advice if possible :)

It also depends on which tone and feel you prefer. 2820 mahogany body vs 70V basswood, pick up combination, neck type etc.

2820 is like you said limited run and not easy to find, 70V will float around soon. You can purchase 2820 now if that's available and look for a Prestige JEM in future.

Re: a little advice if possible :)

Tbh i didnt realise 2820 was mahogany. Id like to have basswood or even alder again as my main guitar, the suhr is mahogany.

Pickup wise i have a set of an and ss that i could put in either, although i like evos anyway.

70V is a great guitar. Mine has a fantastic fit/finish on it. I have 2 J-Customs, and an FP2 to compare with. For the price and what it comes with, I'm very happy!

interesting! theyre not all of poor finish then. ive actually never had a jem before, after playing one a few years ago i really wanted one but i ended up getting a js, then a jp6 and a pgm. id like to get a prestige jem, but that aint happening unfortunately at the moment

I have a 2820. I recently changed the pickups for a Tone Zone / Liquifire combination. The guitar sounds even better. It is so comfortable it is great. I have had it for 6 years now, love every second I am playing it

You don't need a tremol-no with an Edge Zero bridge! I have an OE RG550 with a Tremol-no and a RG2550z with an Edge Zero and the EZ bridge is stable enough that you don't need a tremol-no. I love the EZ bridge
