Re: My E's too high dog!
It's not a "problem", it's a minor "bug". The outside strings will be about .2mm higher than they could be. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.

: would compound radius (conical fretboard) solve this issue?

Yes, it would. If you shim the bridge according to the radius at the 24:th
Good idea, btw
I've done that to mine, althought it's PLEK'ed (Which I by th way highly recommend)

It's really not that bad, and I think it's fix-able. It's not even high, it's just that if you are being competely super, crazy, silly, picky, spoiled, then it's a little high. I think if you got to spend some time with a nice J custom, you would not think about reconsidering. The honest truth, is that the craftmen ship is insanly amazing on the guitar! It's just this one little thing. The guitar still plays & sounds better than any high end Ibanez I've played. You won't be disapointed.

Re: My E's too high dog!
I'm so sick of reading the word PLEK. It's nothing more than a substitute for a good tech. Now any monkey can do a good level using a machine.
Compound radius has nothing to do with this equation. Compound radius necks are tighter at the nut and flatter at the end. The radius is even, just too tight for the nut.

Re: My E's too high dog!
At the start of the thread, someone mentioned that J-Customs commonly suffer from this issue. I took this to mean that the J-Customs are the only
Ibanez guitars
that are affected.
The Prestige range have the same
neck radius
and bridge, so I would assume that they are affected as well. I have a 1570, and I am not bothered in the least by the height of my strings in relation to my neck radius.
So my question is, if i have no problem with the 1570, is the "issue" with the J-Customs likely to bother me?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Rock on!

So what is the radius? 380? I thought they were all 430.

Hey, I was wondering about that for my Jackson that just has the high E a little high, what tooling would you need to flatten the shelf and cut the slot?
There's a technical school near me in Boston and I might bring the nut over with a dozen dohnuts and see if a kid can do it but I'm not that familier with the lingo
is there a web site with the basics of machining?

Re: My E's too high dog!
Just need a mate with a milling machine and a 12mm or 14mm endmill, (4 flute would be nice), would take about 5 minutes to get the nut levelled up and a couple of minutes to cut it, easy basic machining. Any angles could be quickly setup and cut by using a tilting vice.
I'd personally prefer this to using a hand file, as you'll get a near perfect finish from the machine.

I have to agree with this. For the price J Customs go for, the guitar never should have been delivered to the original poster in that condition. I would have sent it back and said, "fix this."

Sure, maybe it's not some "magic" device, but why leave any guess-work when you don't have to? Regardless, the PLEK doesn't think all for itself. The operator still has to be knowledgeable about the inner-workings of a guitar setup.

What condition? With the action not absolutely perfect? That hardly qualifies as a "condition". Any new guitar is going to need a setup. Bitching about the entire line is just ridiculous and petty.
The guitar you sent me is out of tune!!!11!1 FIX IT!!!

It's your way to see it yes, but it's really the best setup I've ever got
I've done it to alot of my guitars, and so have people like Jojje Wadenius and quite alot of other renowned guitarists.
Filing down the nut is still the easiest option to do, one that I've done to mine, but of course there's the possibility to compound-radius the frets to have them have the nut's radius. (That sound wicked :P Sorry for my terrible english) That solves the problem, if you lower the nut the amount needed.
Once again, I think it's wrong of you to tell off people working with PLEK-machines. They really really get the job done, and those here in Sweden, Guitarlabs, are the greatest persons around. I might add they're absolutely SUPERB techs without the PLEK machine as well.
