My new Prestige!

Hee hee, well, I did it, ...I went and bought the thing. it is absolutely gorgeous and plays like a dream. The fit and feel is absolutely perfect for me in every way. Just thought I'd share. This is what I'm selling my Jem for and this just fits me / suits me better. What a great guitar!

The only thing I've noticed I don't like is that there is very little sustain in the upper registers compared to the JEM. Maybe someone can tell me if this is associated with the stock pups?? I was surprised at that with the neck through design! Hopefully it's just the pups. I thought Mahogany with the neck through would sustain forever, ...and it does in the lower registers.

Anyway, ...here's a few pics. Ahhh, the beauty of this thing!

Awesome man, peace to ya fellow TN dude, where did you get your killer prestige? The sustain on that model is awesome! It may be the set up, and man with some hot Dimarzio's in there she will scream.

When I worked at GC Nashville, we got one in, there was way to much relief in the neck, so in the early frets she was there more then the upper frets, once I set it up, the tension came into place and the thing sustained like crazy.

I picked it up at the other place, LOL. Sam Ash. I really don't like to do business there but I couldn't turn this one down.

So you think the pups and setup have something to do with it? I like the tone of the guitar a lot. I was hoping not to have to upgrade pups. I don't know anything about the stock DiMarzio IBZ pups in these things though. I just know I LUV the smooth buttery tone of this thing. I did some setup myself tonight, but I'll have a pro do it and we'll see if that helps any.

Re: My new Prestige!

Raise the pickup height slightly, aparently some prestiges arrive with them pretty low. Then you'll be set. I didn't want to mess with my RG 2550e 's setup for the first few days, but once I got tinkering, the difference was night and day. And all from a few turns of a screwdriver.

Congrats man! I just got an '04 RGT3020 which is the flame toppped predecessor (sp?) to this model and I might sell a few other axes due to the variety of tones I get from it.

I do wish they had bound the neck and headstock for the price they go for

Bad pic but you get the idea

Again, congrats! Definitely the nicest RG before going into the JC line. I could imagine that getting one from Rich would be damn close to a JC with his pro setup I always hear about.

Different Duncans might open up new possibilities in tone but I don't mind the stock Duncan/Ibanez pups myself. They are very Paf sounding or a lower output JB/'59 kinda set. I have that set in my SZ4020 and being a big fan of Duncans (especially the JB/Jazz combo) I still haven't been able to bring myself to change them. I may eventually change them just for something with a little more output but they sound great in the tone dept for me, I don't play super heavy stuff though

Re: My new Prestige!

Well, it is certain to me that the guys at Ibanez knocked themselves out on this one with the looks. It is so beautiful to look at. I simply love the neck-thru design.

Anyone else know anything about the sustain problem I'm having? I will change the strings tonight and see if that does anything but seems doubtful IMO.
