NECK QUESTION. (sorry)

O.k the long & the short of it chaps.

Have an Ibanez with a Super Wizard neck but I'm going to try & buy an RG 3120. This has a Wizard neck.

Which NECK IS SMALLER/Better?

Super Wizard..ie hence the word super? As in thin as...

My guitar's an RG550 which looks like it has the three joined neck thing going on..in the back of the neck...ie..one dark line in the middle & two lighter's on the outer.

Looking at the pic's of the RG3120 it looks like the neck is one peace of wood.

Correct? Picture isn't that cracking so I carn't tell myself.

Re: NECK QUESTION. (sorry)

Tar...Thanks very much..your the man....Only other thing is this. I thought that the RG3120 was only made in that greenie/blue colour.

Did Ibanez ever make a RG3120 in RED please?

Don't want to get screwed over now.lol

Looks the deal with the dots being on the top side of the neck. But RED BODY?

Yes, they made an RG3120 in Deep Red. The full model number is RG3120DR. I just bought one. Still waiting for it, though, currently being shipped.

Here she is:

The 3120 has a 3-piece Wizard neck. The Super Wizard is the same only it has the bubinga strip.

Re: NECK QUESTION. (sorry)

Thanks Fretpick, I'm sure I'll love it. Good price too. I paid $695, equivalent of £380 (they sell for approx £700 here in the yoo-kay) and it's apparently mint apart from very minor finish wear on the bridge which, as you'll know, is normal. It's a 2001 model. Yippee! Oh, btw, there's currently one on e-Bay right now. Item # 230013449244

I like the crazy solo, btw. Go on son!

Re: NECK QUESTION. (sorry)

The 3120 has a better neck, it was the early Prestige one, with the volute... pretty smoking neck...

I know it said "Wizard" everywhere, but the damn thing felt way chunkier, heavier, more solid and comfortable than any other jap RG neck i had played...

Re: NECK QUESTION. (sorry)

That's what I heard too, marianozz, that the 3120 had a slightly chunkier neck, but it was always listed as having a Wizard. Whatever, the slightly chunkier neck is fine by me, I love all of 'em! To be honest, I would prefer a slightly thicker neck anyway, even though I've played the original Wizard since '88, I always felt that it was just a tiny bit too thin, especially at the headstock end.

Thanks for the info.

Re: NECK QUESTION. (sorry)

The RG3120 say's Wizard but if you look at the cut in the spec's listed on ibanezrules, you'll see it's the same as Super Wizard 17mm/20mm. Hence, 3120's Wizard is really Super Wizard! J-Customs that same year have 17mm/20mm and are listed as Super Wizard. You can check that hear on Jemsite. Peace...
