Need some of advice buying a new RG
Hi guys, Well this is my first post here, but have been reading this site for a few weeks now. I am going to buy a new guitar here soon. I'm looking to spend from $700 to $1400 on a new Ibanez guitar. I have a cheaper Ibanez a RG320FM and I have to say owning a lot of other top name guitars this is my main guitar. It just plays better then all my 2k guitars lol.
Ok now what I need help with is picking the right model. I like the RG line the best and would prefer to get another RG. Does any of the higher end Ibanez come without a painted neck? That’s a must for me. One more question does the Prestige RG series have the Wizard necks kind of a must also?
Any help would be appreciated

Re: Need some of advice buying a new RG
what do you mean by painted neck?
Did you mean the headstock?
if the headstock, yes, the 2005 line up has high end prestige such as RGT320 with rosewood headstock.
wizard neck is some kind of trademark to ibanez.
IMHO, yes, you should get one with the wizard.

My bad I should have been more specific. I was just referring to the back of the neck as most companies paint theres and after a few songs it starts to get sticky on my thumb. Painted headstock is fine.

Re: Need some of advice buying a new RG
most ibanez has satin finish, this kind of finish will become oily after years of playing, the newer prestige line feels like it was no finish at all, but I don't know what it will become after years of playing, my oldest prestige is from 2004. trust me, you will like the prestige neck.

I just got a RG2620CBL, and it has an unfinished neck. I just love it, and I own 2 jems too. I paid about $1200 for the RG.

Re: Need some of advice buying a new RG
Most of the current RG line doesn't have painted necks. The only exceptions might be some of the thru-neck models. If you love your RG320 then I would suggest a similar high end model like an RG3120 or if you're looking to get away from tremolos then the RGA321. Both are exquisite instruments that I'm sure would blow your RG320 out the water...assuming you haven't modded it to death.

Re: Need some of advice buying a new RG
you may want to wait a little while till winter NAMM, there may be something more exciting than what's out so far. Apparently they're releasing 8 new RG's

Ah yeah, good idea. I Love the Blue of the RGA , but not fond of the to plain wood ones 3120's? Any of you all have a idea of when we might start seeing the first RG's trickle in?
BTW: I gave my 320FM to my brother for christmas
I will try to wait , but will be hard to though.
Thanks for the heads up and advice guys. I appericate it much

Re: Need some of advice buying a new RG
I have two guitars with different necks altho both are wizards. my rg3120 came with a real nice three piece
prestige wizard neck
(headstock is not a seperate piece). The neck's finish is superb. My only gripe about it is that theres a large outcropping of wood under the nut. Its not much of a complaint tho because sometimes i enjoy its presence.
The other neck came on an rg520. It is a 4 piece neck and has a bubinga stripe down the neck's center, and is flat under the nut
. It has a rather thick but well finished polyurethane coat kinda like the body, but it plays excellently and my hand doesnt stick.
I was at my local Ibanez dealer a couple weeks ago and I tried out an RG1570. It has a newer prestige neck, different design but same feel and same finish as my prestige neck. I also played an rgt42dxfm. it has wizard II (yuck) neck and is neck- thru, the guitar and neck have a matte finish that is very playable. I thought having a finish like that on the neck would be more of a deal breaker than being a wizard II. It actually played very nicely and my hand didnt stick at all, but I have to wonder how long that type of finish willl last on a neck, or body for that matter. I didnt mean to write such a huge post but I figured I could offer some insight into the various neck finishs you'll find on
Ibanez guitars
.

Re: Need some of advice buying a new RG
Get a 3120. Its the best bolt on rg that Ibanez sells in the US. You can get them really cheap now too since theyre discontinued.
