New 3120 vs. "old" 3120 vs. RGT3120

Ehem...... OK I've noticed that Ibanez has a new 3120 in the lineup. I have the older RG3120 trans red. I also have a RGT3120 in trans purple. I LOVE!!! the 3120 and is my main superstrat bodied guitar. The RGT3120 for some reason I have not warmed up to. Now the question is: How does the "new 3120 and "old" 3120 compare? I'm thinking of looking for a trade for a new 3120 or selling the RGT3120 and buying one of the newer ones. What do you think? Thanks

Hey Donovan, Rich from Ibanezrules would probably be able to tell you the differences. But please remember this...if you are ever serious about letting go of the trans red RG3120 I would be willing to talk. You can drop a private message if you want. I have let that trans red model slip through my fingers to many times and I love that color. If you hold onto it, I would'nt blame you. In fact I don't see that color/model come up very often. I lost out to two in one week on those damn auction sites. TUGGEY

NO WAY!!!! The Red 3120 is my #1 I bought it on a whim at a GC years ago. It's strange but I don't buy guitar at Guitar Center but for some reason this one called out to me from the wall. Actually it was the most beautifull thing I'd ever seen, Red flame clear binding strip clean neck two hum setup. I love it! Actually I'd almost trade my RGT3120 with the EMGs for a clean 3120. I just love it.

Donovan, just reading your description of the trans red RG makes me jealous! They are truly beautiful. The EMG's in your other RG, do they take batteries or no?? I was wondering how people get their guitars routed for a battery compartment. Or has Ibanez already had them built in,(Sorry for my lack of Knowledge) I would love to see a Picture of your guitars. Regards TUGGEY

Thanks,
The battery just stuffs into the controll cavity, just put some foam in there and smash it in. You can however buy aftermarket deals for it. The pickups where the hardest part. I had to rout the hell out of the body to get them to fit. There's a bunch of pics here

Donovan, Damn...ask and you shall recieve. That is some collection! I really hope you have house/renters insurance just in case. That is quite the investment. Thanks for the info on the EMG's routing issue. I live here in Lake Placid NY. Yes, the Olympics were here. Its in the mountains way upstate. I have to depend on Jemsiters for honest info about gear because its literally 2 to 3 hours to a "decent" guitar shop. So when I'm out trolling to look at guitars or gear its pretty much an all day event to get there and get home. By the way, how do your neighbors feel about the Marshalls?

I really like the look of the 05' RG3120, shame about the standard dot inlays though, I prefer offset dots like the original 3120.

Re: New 3120 vs. "old" 3120 vs. RGT3120

Old one has TZ/Paf Pro combo, one piece maple neck and Lo Pro...

RGTs are neckthrus, Paf Pro/Paf Pro, and (i believe) Edge Pro...

New ones are Dimarzio IBZ, small dots, 5 piece neck and Edge pro...

Me? i had (and would take) an old 3120 over anything else any day of the week...
