New Guitar Day

I've been trying to get my $ together for the new RG2007-1 limited and ran across a great deal on a NOS '06 limited RG: the RG20072. I had lusted after the RG20073 since it was introduced but never had the chance to get one. This one came along at the right time and I actually have fallen for the red stain.

Fit and finish would rate this axe around a 9.5 but overall it is a fine example of a Prestige. The jury is still out on the stock Dimarzio/IBZ pups but the guitar will get its cherry popped this weekend at two nights of gigs to really be able to decide if they will stay or go. No real issues with the guitar other than extremely minor rough edges here and there on the top and sides (VERY minor and only on the actual puzzle pieces) that you feel when you run your hand along the top or a cloth while wiping. I only noticed one very small gap between a couple puzzle pieces so the fit is tight for the most part across the top. A nice gloss would have set the top off more IMHO but the satin is still nice as is the satin neck.

Enough talk, here's my pics (not easy to photograph and I have bad photography skills):

I oiled the bone dry neck, did as much setup as I know how and added a "Dee recommended" gauge of strings (9,12,16,24,32,44 - which actually do feel more "even" but not in an extreme WOW! kinda way - at least not enough to want to pay extra for them every single time on ALL my 9 gauge guitars). I put a set of Dunlop strap locks (using a toothpick in the hole to help get more bite and have less of a chance of loosening) and now have it ready for my gigs this weekend. I'll post my thoughts on this fine axe after the weekend.

BTW- I still want the RG20071 limited....GAS is a terrible thing

Sweetass...looks very cool, but I'm sure it's one of those guitars that looks WAY cooler in person...but then again, aren't they all?

Wow Bones!!! That's awesome!! You know that puzzle pieces are like the official symbol for Autism?? I wonder how many people will come up to you after gigs asking you if you know someone who is autistic! hehe You could answer and say, "Oh, I'm just trying to raise the awareness." That would probably get you laid! Oh man, did I just say that last part outloud? Ummm err.. I mean it would probably get you alot of admiration! Yeah, that's it.. admiration! hehe Enjoy your new axe man, it's awesome!

Re: New Guitar Day

^^

Nothing like getting a little admiration only it would be nicer to get it due to my playing. If it just took a specific looking guitar to get "admiration" then Ibanez would do well to figure out what that would be because they would sell a bajillion of them

The guitar is lighter in caparison to some other Ibanez guitars I own: RGT3020 (heavy), RGA121 and the RG20ths for example. It weighs almost the same as my 7VWH and a little more than my 777VBK, which is actually one of my lightest Ibanez axes interestingly enough.

Ibanez really put in some serious time filling in the whole top with the pieces. Some of the pieces are very small next to the neck joint and trem route. It is cool that they left the edge of the pieces natural to give the look of binding.

It really does look better in person and is very understated until you get close to it to see the puzzle top and then the WOW factor sets in.

Now it is time to goto K-mart to get some new underwear so I can make it home in time to watch Whoppner

Re: New Guitar Day

So far she does, thanks

It just hit me that this is "breast cancer awareness month" so maybe that theme on a guitar top would be an "admiration" getter on top of the fact you would get to have b00bies on your guitar

I'm still not awake obviously. I need more coffee.......

LMAO!! You sound like you're like 12 or something... "boobies" LOL I could just see you now... announcing it over the microphone at your gigs that it's breast cancer awareness month and you will be giving out free breast exams after the show! You dog! And here I thought all this time that the "69" in your screenname was referring to your birth year! hehehe

I was born in '71

I was being kind on my choice of words. I like your train of thought on breast exams I might have to try that this weekend

Thanks Dee. Other than my RFR I don't own a red axe and the RFR isn't a basic red so this axe fills that spot too. Amazing how guitars can be fasionable as well as soulful. Changing guitars between sets or during sets is easier than changing outfits (ala Vai-esque).

Me too! So you're just a couple of months older than me! Quick... what was your favorite Captain Crunch flavor, original, peanut butter or that fruity one?

Re: New Guitar Day

I like the fruity one but I eat the peanut butter pieces out of it since they actually taste better than in the plain peanut butter version for some reason. I haven't eaten that in forever. I usually get the boring healthy cereals mostly and occaisionally a "kids" cereal just to break things up a little.

We're not even a couple months apart actually. Isn't yours like Sept 21st or something close to that? Mines Aug 17th.

Thanks Nuno.
