new j-custom?

Is this a new J-custom for 2006, or is it just an old second hand model? Im not sure, has anyone seen it before? Or is it one of Ikebe's small run 'custom' J-customs ? Looks to be just a black RG with emgs, not particularly sexy...

Re: new j-custom?

It's a new model. It's going to be released in May and Ikebe is taking reservations. They're also taking reservations for the 8470, which is apparently replacing the 8270. On the Ibanez Japan site, it says that they've stopped production on the 8270.

New stuff for the 2006 J-Customs: titanium reinforced Super Wizard neck, matching headstock, VelveTouch neck finish (some sort of fast finish).

BTW, you can tell the Ikebe custom models because they'll have an HRG model number.

Re: new j-custom?

Titanium neck..... interesting.....

According to Ishibashi, the 8470 has 3 finishes.

"This model is available with Black Onyx finish,Prominence finish and Fire Agate finish"

Anyone have a picture or know what Prominence is?

Um, that would be three.

Most people call it "trans amber." :P The Fire Agate is just a honey burst. It looks the same as their current Vintage Violin finish. I hope they're not getting rid of the trans red and trans blue finishes. Those are really nice.

It is J-custom RG 8320 BBK. Price is same as JEM 7 VWH.

Alder body, texture finish, EMG 85 (N) and 81(B). it is cool looking guitar.

It might be close but it won't be the same. Different name, different color

Did all J-Customs have 5A tops before?

Ikebe has four 5A 8470s in stock. One of them's here:

http://www.ikebe-gakki.com/goods_detail.php?g_id=51836

They say that these are a limited run of 26. (How many J-Customs do they normally make a year?) It's unclear to me how these relate to the 8470s that are due out in April, but the model numbers are different: 8470F vs 8470A.

Aside from the 5A top, the necks sound different on the 8470As. 305mm radius and 40.5mm wide at the nut.

Re: new j-custom?

titanium reinforced Super Wizard neck

Now that's the kind of a cutting edge advance that makes me like Ibanez.
