New J-Custom for 2009: RG8570Z

Three have just gone up on Ikebe:

- available in red, black or purple
- looks the same as last year's RG8470Z but with a True Velvet instead of Blue Velvet middle pickup (couldn't tell you the difference as I always go for H-H setups)
- not seen neck specs - presumably the current J-Custom fave 17mm-19mm Super Wizard as opposed to the chunky neck profile of the RG8570 from a few years ago

I know some will complain there's hardly any change, and yes that's boring for those of us fortunate enough to already own a J-custom, but at the end of the day it's a winning superstrat formula and putting aside quibbles over the current trem or personal pickup preference, I'm sure these guitars will totally rock.

only one word, boring!! Either Ibanez R & D doesn’t look at other guitar brands or they only have limited colors available in their guitar design software.

Maybe a new model wasn't planned at all, and this is just because the Blue Velvet has been discontinued in favour of the True Velvet. Probably wouldn't be treated as a new model if it was just the addition of a purple option. This would back up what I read in another thread that the current run of RG8470 / RG8420 was supposed to be a two year run.

You can also get one from Ishibashi, I got mine from them, it wasn't complicated at all. By the way, the duties and taxes are about 370$ here in quebec.

The new purple is stunning indeed - took this pic at Kurosawa in Ochanomizu, Tokyo, earlier this week. According to their tech, sales of this color are still hesitant, black onyx still sells best (although IMHO it is pretty boring compared to red spinel and the purple in real life). He also said along the lines that a J Custom lives off DiMarzios, maybe Seymours, but EMGs are definitely crippling the basic idea:

Z refers to the Edge Zero, guitars with a Z on the end of the name have that tremolo system.
