I don't really like the black on black on this guitar.
EMG's would look better on any other finish I guess...

Not for me

I saw that one when I was in Osaka a couple of weeks back. Didn't try it out though due to time limitations.

Re: New j custom model?

Not my cup o' tea either. Drop in a set of passive pups and it would be more enticing.

JC's have been on an EMG kick lately. I don't get it? Most of the people that play JC's aren't into the EMG active thing so why ruin a perfectly good tonal instrument with EMG's?

Just my humble opinion, but c'mon, is there really a market for EMG's in a JC?
(no offense to EMG lovers and in fact I have a new EC-1000 with an EMG 81/60 factory set due to arrive tomorrow - we'll see how I like them to whether I pull them and add a JB/Jazz set in it. It actually might be a great candidate for the active Livewire JB/Jazz set).

I saw that thread but I didn't realize this was the same model. I'm slow on model numbers for JC's.

Yeah, we post on the wishlist forum but I don't generally see requests like this.

I am going to buy a cheap, used JC and throw a maple board on it.

Re: New j custom model?

Ibanez should make 6-string J-Customs with H-H pup configuration and with passive pups; 6 strings, tree of life inlay, flametop, H-H (passives)...

The only thing that stops me from buying 6-string J-Customs are the middle pickups. And yes, I'm a*al about the middle pups...

It looks great. At least Ibanez is offering alternatives now. People who like 8320 would love 8420.

Yeah, indeed! My main problems with middle pups are:
a) I don't need/use one
b) H-H config looks A LOT better
c) if it isn't screwed all the way down the pick touches it sometimes

Middle pups go and look fine on strats and on guitars with pickguards IMO. Then there's the fact that they carve away nice flametop to put in a useless pup (for me at least).

[/rant off]

I feel better now.

Sure, they sound almost the same if we don't count in the lack of tree of life inlay, lack of fretboard binding, non-matching headstock, lack of floating bridge etc.

Re: New j custom model?

This one tickles my fancy. I've warmed up to EMG pups lately (have 81/85 sets in a USA Dean Z and USA Hamer Californian; 81 plus their single coil). At least in a high-end guitar, IMO sound very good).
