Edge-Zero (!!!)

Look like they're all screw-in arms, and I guess the Edge Pro is being completely dropped. Obviously we'll have to play them for final judgement, but any preliminary impressions? I'd like to know the exact details on the SyncroniZR and Edge Zero, it's gotten me excited.

Not really...gets rid of the slop for the most part if it's engineered and manufactured properly...better than having to change bushings, or apply nail policy, teflon tape, cracking the bar tube...i could go on...

so what's the deal with Ibanez coming up with newer bridges each year? I appreciate they ARE the company that strives for innovation... but here's what their timeline's like so far:

The Edge [pre-RG] lasted til the Lo-Pro came out in the early 90's... and somehow got resurrected up in late 90 (RG520's) and the more recent RG20th...
that lasted til 2003 when the Edge II / Edge Pro II came out... it was presumed this was going to be the Lo-Pro killer but...
the next few years, the Edge III / Edge Pro III came out [what's the biggest difference between II and III anyhow???]
and next year an Edge Zero, a ZR-Lo Pro hybrid? Sounds like the best of both worlds but looks way too complicated to setup for even the most experienced.

My point: 2 superb bridges in nearly two decades vs 4 bridges in 5 years is proof how reliable the Edge's/Lo-Pro are.

The ZR is incredibly easy to use/maintain/set up.
I would highly enjoy a new RG with that edge-zero. Looks fantastic.

The Edge III came out so Ibanez didn't have to use Patients on FR's, therefore not having to pay royalties to floyd rose.

And BTW, the Edge Pro II did not replace the Edge or the low pro, it replaced the Lo-TRS.

Apparently the SyncroniZR is a Strat-type trem and uses locking tuners, no roller nuts though; although they can easily be changed.

Graph-Tech nuts are arguably as good if not better than a roller nut. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they're made of some sort of microscopic ball bearings, so they're infinitely lubricated, rather than more mechanical like a roller nut.

This might be a biased comment though, because I've only played a roller-nut equipped guitar a few times, and I have two guitars with graph-tech nuts.

I've had at least six Ibanez guitars over the last 10 years, all of them with pop-in bars (whatever the official term is for that) and have never had issues with any of them. I loved that idea and I personally think this new design sucks - at least this aspect of it.

I, for one, love the screw-in design. Sure, I like the pop-in thing, but I just like it after I've modified it to work properly, and that's not how it should be, in my eyes

I would prefer a screw-in bar to the push-in variety, especially for flutters and cool Mattias Ia Eklund whammy-pedal-faking tricks.

I don't need to laundry list the stuff I've owned since the early 90's, but if you never had an issue then you're not using the bar. Infact I have a BRAND NEW 1570 that has more bar slop than a freakin' drunk hooker. Its ridiculous. You put new bushings on and in like a week it's back to flopping around in there...at least a set screw would have helped that issue a bit...
