NMD...!!!

yes, new mod day...

well, this is quite a story.

i decided a while ago that i wanted my rg2550z to look like a 777vbk. they are just the coolest thing ever. all black with green knobs, pups and vine. so, i went on my way and started acquiring some pieces to start the "project".

first i got some genuine ibanez green knobs and tip (big thanks to ibanezfreak777). then i found out they didn't fit on the shafts of my pots. so, off to rich to get some knurled-shaft pots. so i got them. then the final touch was the black pickguard (massive thanks to jeannie pickguards). my next goal is to get a paf pro, tone zone and maybe a red velvet (i think...) all in green installed, but that will take a while.

anyway, i've just spent the last 3 hours or so soldering and resoldering these damn wires to get the new pots installed. oh lord, how painful. i've never soldered anything on a guitar. wires came off, capacitors got left un-soldered...long story short it was a hassle. the thing is, now it's all set up, the volume knob works fine but the tone knob is really weird. it's kind of acting like a volume knob as well for some reason. it's not affecting the tone. i suspect i mixed a wire up somewhere. but at least the volume works. just no tone for now and there is now way i'm opening it all up again to try and fix it, not today.

also, i forgot to add, just to add to the dodgyness of the whole thing, i used aluminium foil as shielding stuck on with blu-tack and there is an old lamps wire used to connect the tone and volume pots

and the pics.

yes, my first feeble mod. not much to show, but i had to post it after what it's taken to just get it to this point. i think it looks amazing, sooooooo much better than the purple/black smokey pickguard that comes with it.

flame away!

Re: NMD...!!!

You need that cap on the tone pot for it to work as a tone pot.

yeah it has one! i used the old capacitor from the old tone knob. i guess i must not have soldered it properly?

atm the tone knob is really weird. you can read it in my thread in the wiring section.

Re: NMD...!!!

Get ET Guitars to make you a green vine neck. You could probably get some decent money selling your current neck. You could also consider having them route a grip and claw into the body and painting it gloss black. As a final touch, I'd swap the bridge out for a cosmo Edge Pro or LoPro. That would be pretty close to the guitar you're after.

mmm, but i don't want it to be a 777vbk lol.

EVENTUALLY, one day in the future the guitar will have an edge-routed solid black body (to replace that silly sparkle finish) with a black edge. i'm gonna keep the neck though.
