PGM300RE or PGM401?

Without a doubt...get the PGM300RE! Its a classic...the 401 is not...and will be widely available in the near future...the 100 and 300 not;-) Ive got both the 100RE and 300RE...and I am never parting with them. And of course they got the Edge and Lo Pro Edge which makes a big difference.

My dad bought me the 401 for my 30th birthday a few months ago. I've owned a PGM301 since 2004 and its been my main guitar since i bought it.

I thought i would like the 401 because of my great relationship with the 301. I was wrong. My dad got it from GAK (uk shop) and you get a week to send it back. In that week i played it constantly, about 8 solid hours a day trying to like it but no luck. The bridge is the same as the 301 so i knew how to play around with it and set it up......Still no luck. I tried guage 9 and guage 10 strings.......no luck. I even used it for a wedding gig and felt like throwing it off stage.

All in all its probably the worst guitar i have ever played (and ive owned a lot). It really really pains me to say that and im actually still really upset about it ( i felt like crying sending it back). The guitar sounds and looks amazing but plays like a ****ter.

Hopefully the 300 will have the early 301 neck (2003-2004) cause they are the real PGM necks. Also the maple on the PGM fingerboards is much nicer than the maple on my RG2550mz and the original (before prestige) RG550.

P.S. The PGM100 has a floating trem too

The 300RE has the new prestige neck. Look at the neck profiles on Ibanez.com. If it's 58mm at the base, then it's the new profile. Your PGM301 has the 56mm at base profile.

Sorry you don't like the 401. Is it just because of the extra width on the neck?

No the width is fine. I play in a band that does popular music (beatles, killers, kings of leon) for pubs, partys and weddings. Not my cup of tea really but pays good. Anyway because of that nature of the band i have used les pauls, strats, teles, some of which have had necks like tree trunks (the Les Pauls i use are 50's neck) so im no stranger to big necks.

The 401 had a really uncomfortable feel to it. Like when you play a cheap guitar and you can still play the songs you know but it all feels like your working harder. Not good and like i said i really wanted to like the 401 and keep it as my main guitar
