Um, there is no accounting for taste I s'pose !!!!?? If you decide to do it you may have problems with mounting the electrics especially the vol/tone pots coz they're recessed on the JCs.

Damn, I forgot about that totally!!

I'd buy that J-Custom if it didn't have that middle pup...

but you could simply cut the vol/tone holes bigger so they can still be recessed

I used to have bad 'middle pup phobia' once, but now I have Ibanez guitars with both HH and HSH pups , I prefer them with the middle pup !!! The range of tones is superior and as long as you drop the s/coil down a bit it doesn't get in the way at all. And the RG shape just looks 'right' with the middle pup to me now whereas before I hated all HSH or SSH guitars of any kind.
Get over it and move on !!!!

Only issue I have GAZ is that if/when you wanted to use the single coil only, you run into the not noise-cancelling and lower volume issues that are common to those. Besides the fact that unless it is lowered so as to be totally flat to the body, it does get in the way from time to time.

A good H-H pup combination and a mega 5-way switch, with the inner and outter coils wired and available do more than compensate for the potential difference in tone of that extra single coil.

Gus.

I have to say I don't really use the s/coil on it's own anyway !! I don't have hum problems with it through my Recto at all though and the volume drop is a good thing for clean sounds: gives you a lot more headroom. But then I don't drop mine down too far so it's not as much of a volume drop. Maybe I'm biased coz my two HSH guitars are JCs and the HH is 'only' a Prestige !! lol !! I have two PRS's too, but I hate the HSH models of those !! Just call me fickle....
