Pick up sugestion for RGA121 and RG321
Hi, I am planning to change my RG321's pickups. A friend of mine has an RGA121 and he plans to change the pick ups, too. (not happy with them even though the guitar was expensive-I am almost glad that I got RG321) What pick ups would you recommend to us? We play progressive rock, dream theater, satriani, northern european bands, power metal, melodic metal and symphonic metal etc.
Thank you

Re: Pick up sugestion for RGA121 and RG321
I suggest buying more guitars. I don't think there's a single pickup configuration that will give you all that variety. The other idea is to get a good modelling amp, so that you can tweak further. ToneZone/AirNorton will probably give you the most to tweak with.
Things for bridge (ToneZone, Breed, Steve's Special, Fred)
Things for neck (AirNorton, PAF,
PAF Pro
,
PAF Joe
, Norton)
"Northern European Bands" <--- ABBA?
Good luck!

If you check out
Seymour Duncan
and diMarzio's websites, they have some sound bites for the pick ups. It can give a good place to start and let you listen for something you like.

Re: Pick up sugestion for RGA121 and RG321
I just bought a digitech gnx4 pedal, so for a while it's impossible to buy new guitars. ITs community is so vibrant and patches come in daily, I am very hopeful that it will be the solution for me!
northern european bands- stratovarius, nightwish, sonata arctica, lost horizon, royal hunt etc....and oh..of course ABBA lol
It's good that nordic bands (for they are usually from sweden, finland, denmark) are reviving these styles, it is difficult to find such high number of good bands anywhere else. Kamelot is also a very good US band that plays the same genre.
Thanks for suggestions, more is always welcome

Well the Tone Zone/Air Norton combo is a tried and true winner. Right now, I'm towards getting a
Tone Zone
and a PAF Pro for my guitar.

go AN/TZ. versatile as hell. especially wired up to a 5 way. use either ibanez special 5 schematics. you get the standard 3 way positions and the petrucci
coil tap
ina addition to either a paralleled neck or tapped neck hum. i use a similar setup...custom wired with similar positions and i play lots of different styles of music. great for clean, blues, rock, pop, prog, and flat out metal. cool jazz tunes as well, and the petrucci clean is really cool for laid back, snappy chicken picken, too. like a tele in the middle position.

Hey man...I was wondering, did you have to file the edges of the EMG flaps to be able to fit it in the
pickup cavity
??
