Hey Magnus, nice collection (wonder how many times people will say that now you've posted!)

Can you give us some more info on the Ibanez with the wilkinson(?) trem?

That one's not for sale is it?

Thanks!!!

I have two of the Wilkinson RG (this one and one blue), first I found one at the distributor here in Sweden. I had never seen an RG like it, so I took it home.
They had no idea of what model it was or how it got there so I asked Ibanez direct about it.
And it was made as a test guitar for the Norwegian market, but never got there, and that one was the only one made (that we know of).
I really like the guitar and also having a Wilkinson on my favourite shape body, so I had them made me one more. But I didn’t like the neck on the new one, so I put another neck on it.
The one on the picture is the second one and if you look close can you see that it has a looking nut on the neck (I took the neck from a RG2120 that didn’t sound good anyway).
The body is just raw oiled mahogany, the pickups are BREED and it sounds and play like a dream, but I never use it anymore. I only play my MO and the RGA121’s now.

Give me a good offer and it is yours :-)

Nice story

I took another look at your site after you posted the pics and noticed you had another Wilkinson RG which it looked like you wouldn't want to part with judging by the description! I like the Mahogany one better anyway, i'm really into the simplistic models at the moment, I actually have an RGA121 which I play a hell of a lot more than my Jem7vwh now (I'm putting a D-Sonic and Breed in the RGA next week).

I'll see about making you an offer at some point although i'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment I know where to find you anyway

WoWWWWWWWW!!!!

Lovely collection Magnus!
I always loved those RG3070's just 'cause they're so GREEN.

I've got one of the late 90's Ibanez catalogues with the 3070 in and it has a whole page to itself. Great guitar!

Magnus, is the green fingerboard unpleasant to play because of the feel of the finish? I'm guessing it is.

I used to have an old Roadstar I mod'd the heck out of and the fretboard was painted (neon orange and purple!). I sold because I hated the "stickiness" of the fretboard.

Yes, that fingerboard was the most horrible thing you can imagine.
It wasn’t painted, it was a thin transparent green plastic film laying over the neck, hold in place by the fretwire.
You know the colour filters (plastic stuff) they have on stage light, the board was covered in that, horrible, especially if it was hot onstage and you got a bit of a sweet.

The good thing was that it wasn’t attached to the board, it was just laying on top of it and hold in place by the frets, so it only took about a minute or two to take t of without leaving any sort of marks. My plan was not to take it of because I didn’t know what it was made of and how it was attached, but I put small bits of tape on it when I was going to polish the frets, and small bits of the green came of when I removed the tape. So I thought, this should be easy to remove, so I did.

Maybe I have, in some peoples eyes, trashed a sort of collectors guitar, but to be honest, I don’t care. It is a fantastic guitar, but it would never ever be used with the green **** on it, and good guitars should be played, even if that means a small modification.
The guitar was used when I bought it, but I’m pretty sure the other owner didn’t like it either, because the frets where like new, I mean, it was never played.
A waste of a good guitar.

/Magnus

Eek! That sounds uber nasty. I'm glad you were able to save it.
