Thanks much in advance.

Gus.
That's something I'll have to do a little later. My plan is to do a detail comparison, but I can always do a quick comparison to quickly go over my findings between the AA and the backstop.

I'm sooo tempted to take some better shots of my J-Customs for this thread though.. seeing that I now have a digital camera that can take good pics even with my sucky photography skills.

A quick comparison would be great, again, not to take much of your time. I'd also appreciate your commenting on how better (well, or say, different) it is to have one of those installed compared to just the stock floating trem alone. I just didn't want to hijack this tread.

Thx.

I was expecting that question. It's a Prestige neck on a custom made Radius body. More details and pictures see here: http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53035

Oliver,

Nice web site, I'm absolutely delighted seeing all the effort and detail put into the description of each of your guitars. Very cool collection as well.

I had a question on your S1520FB. I noticed you say you switched the stock pups for a PAF Pro and a FRED. Besides the fact that you're greatly please by this combination and use it in some other of your guitars, how can you describe and compare the difference in tone between the before and after?

I happen to like (or I'm accostumed to) the Quantum pups of the S1520, so when I recently tried the TZ and Air Norton on my new J-Custom, well, was not too impressed at all. I'm still making myself familiar to the scooped tone of the TZ. Not quite sure it's 100% of my like. So have been thinking of trying something like a regular Evolution or an EVO2. Any advice?

Cheers!

Gus.

First of all, thanks for your nice words about my website. It's always great to hear that it's appreciated.

Now about the S1520 pickup configuration. I changed the pups to FRED/PAF Pro for two reasons: The stock Quantum pickups were quite OK, but the neck pickup was a little too bassy for my taste and the bridge pickup sounded comparatively weak in contrast to let's say a IBZ F1 or F2. Since I really love the Satriani configuration and was able to get the FRED/PAF Pro (that were taken from a JS1) for really cheap, I just gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised. Now the neck pup is chunky yet round and warm, and the bridge pickup delivers my beloved FRED tone. I guess other DiMarzio models like the ToneZone or the Evolution would "overshoot" when it comes to output, but since the FRED is not an output monster (but has other one-of-a-kind qualities, most of all when it comes to split-coil clean sounds) it's a great match in the S1520. Hope that gives you an idea.
