Prestige always come with cases?

Did the prestige guitars always come with cases? I'm looking at a 2002 prestige model but the owner says it didn't come with a case, but he does have the original box. Does this sound legit? How are the models that don't come with a case packed, just a box with molded styrofoam?

i believe that until 2005 they didn't necessarily come with a case. as of 2005 they come with the team j craft case, though some dealers try withholding the cases.

Sounds legit. Older prestiges came in a nice brown cardboard box, usually packed in another brown cardboard box for shipping.

my 2004 rg2550 came in the older style blue lined case, as did my jem, my friends s series (top of the line one with d tuner) came in a box (i think the shop held out on him though)

There's a bunch of discussion around here on the very topic. It's a source of Ibanez induced bewilderment. In past, you'd end up paying extra for the case. You could buy it without from some sellers, but some won't ship it without one. This year or last they've started including cases, but the price went up to cover it and then some. Look at Rich's NAMM reports. He's pretty specific especially on the Prestige/signature lines.

Anyway, the short answer is that he could've bought it without a case. I can't imagine he didn't case it himself. He just doesn't want to pass it along.

it's like this today: Korean Prestige models do not come with cases, Jap ones do.

I don't think it's that simple... The SA2020FM (2005 model, MIK) that we have in the shop i work at, came with a case, and the Ibanez (UK) website says all the S/SA/SZ (pretty sure at least some of these are MIK) include a 'deluxe prestige case' (http://www.ibanez.co.jp/eg_top.php?AREA_ID=3&SERIES=32)

The whole thing is a mystery. I think some of the cheaper-end of the prestige line didn't come with cases... i seem to remember an RG1550 a few years back that we had which just came in a cardboard box...?
