Perhaps Rich could comment, he must have seen a lot of cases, although I understand that a dealer may not want to shout about something like that, even though it would be entirely the fault of the manufacturing process..............

my prestige case was ok no smell.it was the rg2550z inside that was stinks

Have had cases before with that smell - wasn't as strong as you describe, but leaving it open for a few days did the trick

Couple yrs ago, we bought a new Tempur-pedic bed for ourselves for C-mas (ya know, the one where in the commercial they are jumping up & down beside the glass of wine)

Guys brought it in & set it up the day we were leaving to do the C-mas tour thing with all sets of in-laws

Came back & cat had pissed DIRECTLY in the middle of the bed - think it was the smell of the glue - were able to clean it up at least well enough to be comfrotable we weren't sleeping on cat pee, but we were MAD

lol @ cat, cats are great

well now that i know its glue i can try and get used to the smell and try and trick myself into liking it. hmm. will try the leaving case open idea.

It's just like that new car smell! Learn to love it. If the smell is there is a few years when you try to sell it you can say it smells like new. They make a air freshener that smells like that to help used car lots sell cars. "Hey thats not cat piss, it still smells new!"

Just stick an air freshener in the case for a few days (I have no idea whether that would work or not)!

I just bought a prestige 1570 and returned it because I thought it was pissed on. Guess what? the replacement guitar they sent me smelled the same.( like cat urine) Either they are using nasty glue or there is a disgruntled worker pissing in the cases. Either way I returned that one too and am saving up for a John Suhr.

Same issue here i just got a 1550. Smells of Urin. I used Lysol on the case and its alright, the guitar however is still not. I am not even sure if it is the case. The worst smell was emitted from the electronics cavity / shielding paint. I have the pickguard removed and airing the guitar out since 3 days now, and it appears to be getting better, still not gone though.

Doesn't seem to be an isolated case.

depending on where you bought it from, they might have just took the guitar out, and sent you a different guitar in the same case.
