Prestige hard case - odd smell!

The Prestige case for my RG2550Z that I bought new a year ago had the same smell- in fact it smells a bit that way. I'd call it the "old bar" smell... kind of like stale cigarette smoke perhaps with a bit of urine. I have a several month old Gator case for an Epi Les Paul Custom Z.W. guitar and that case has a very similar smell. It must be something used in the assembly of the case as others have mentioned here.

i don't believe it to be the case. i sprayed it with lysol and its fine as long as the guitar is out. Guitar still smells a little, mainly coming from underneath the pickguard. I believe its the electronics or shielding paint.

I've got a G&L ASAT case that STINKS of wee. You're not alone my friend.

My Suhr case on the other hand just smells of money.

After a few months it seems the smell of prestige cases thins out and just smells of new guitar. I like it alot.

I've been reading this thread for a few months now when it pops up and I always get a good laugh. Yep, my prestige case smelled...exactly like every other hardshell case I've ever had smelled. Les Paul SKB case? Check. Strat # 1 & 2 SKB cases? Check. The only case I have that doesn't smell this way is over 20 years old. This smell is a very familiar smell to me and I didn't even think about it until I read this thread!

It has to be something with how their constructed. Whatever it is, it is a fairly strong smell.

you guys are crazy! i LOVE the smell of my prestige's case. every time i open her up, WHAM the most amazing smell hits me! there's no way to describe it, except that it smells like thin necks and guitar solos.

I've also had new cases that smelled. Don't know about you guys, but I CAN'T play a guitar that has a bad odor- drives me crazy and I wind up grabbing another one.

A few years ago I bought an old strat for significant money -played great, sounded great, but it STUNK like rotting meat. No matter what I tried the stench waifted up as I played it.
I sold it after 2 weeks.

I just went and smelled my prestige case again. It had a faint odor that I usually associate with guitar cases, but it did smell different than what I was used to, so I'll have to retract that from my earlier post.

My wife had a cat that literally pissed all over anything in her parent's front room. You couldn't leave anything in that room for long for very long before that cat would decide it was "his" (the worst cases usually involved a guest's luggage) That cat had literally coated that room several times over in piss. I asked her to smell the case, because she has a very sensitive sense of smell. I asked her if it smelled like cat piss. She said it smelled "Chemically".

So there you have it folks. A definitive answer. The prestige case smells "Chemically". You can now close this thread. That's a wrap!
