That 47 is a Korean model also. Similar, but the 42 has dots, no single, and regular head. I forgot to mention the 42 has a bound neck and head also.

Prestige RGT3120
A translucent purple neck-thru Prestige RG.
Sigh... looks like 2002 is going to be a very expensive year for me, and I was hoping I wouldn't be buying any new guitars for a while...
I hope my wife will understand. If it was trans blue, she'd be a pushover.

Looking at the back of the violet RGT, I can't see any
holes
through the headstock for the
screws
that hold the
locking nut
?!? Check out
this picture

Good eye! *Looks like they're using the top-mount style
locking nuts
, like on the RG9670. *Nice!!

These are actually pretty cool. When installed correctly, that means without pre-drilling too big and using appropriate screws, they do the same great job as the standard bolts; and at the same time they don't take away as much wood at this fragile point. Great idea IMHO!

I think Yamaha innovated the top-mounting locking nut back in the late '80s with their own trem that was on the old RGX series. Hopefully Ibanez copies their other innovation on that locking nut, which was height adjustablility.

Prestige RGT3120
Just found this thread...
The RGT3120 is VERY similar to my JGRG-1s (aka JCRG21A). The
neck finish
on mine does the same "blend" and is gloss finish from heel to head. Front mount nut is the same. JCRG21A does have the "scraped binding" on the body, but it's not very noticable as it's actually painted over a bit with the trans finish (looks like they stained it and then used a trans finish)
With the exception of the neck profile, the only differences I can see are:
1) 3 piece vs. 5 piece neck
2) Lack of GK pup and controls
3) Front mounted pups vs. Rear mounted
Most of these are "nice to have" but not critical, so it looks like a scaled back JCRG21A (and several other similar models (9570 as kuma said), I'm sure).
What pups in the RGT3120?
They are sweet. But they're HEAVY. (no complaints here).
FWIW,
-bill

Well ok pal, if you wanna get technical, I played a JCRG-4GA.
And technically your wife ordered you an RG9670, so you'd better send it back!
(If anyone's confused, Ibanez Japan saw fit to rename the JCRG-4 to RG9670 eariler this year.)
Whatever you call it, I still wish they were available here. *The 3120 is very nice indeed, and definitely a step in the right direction, but I'd miss the single coil, and I just can't get past the white plastic binding..

ME, TOO!!! If it only had the middle pickup, I'd buy it in a heartbeat and even cope with a gloss-finished neck.

From the previous posts it sounds as though the neck is confirmed to have a gloss finish? *Is this absolutely 100% true
