Re: Prestige Trio shot

Thanks.

The sunburst is growing on me. I've never been a sunburst kinda guy but as nice as that axe is I can honestly say that I'd have bought it if it was black, pink or whatever, it is the sweetest playing guitar. I just need to shim the saddles for the D and G strings and it will be perfect for me

do you mind my asking, how is the korean prestige compared to japanese? craftmanship, wood quality etc, not the playabilty since these are obviously much different guitars

Re: Prestige Trio shot

Thanks.

Honestly, it could use a little thicker neck for stability (I can easily flex the neck to get small bends). The only reall issue I've come across is with the gauge of strings I'm using (10-52 EB's) and in standard tuning ( ido use it alot for drop C, hence the heavier bottom strings) I get a small "buzz" or "vibration" from the truss rod. I can hear it "buzz on a few notes (D and A and B) for some reason. Not sure if there is something I can do about it but I don't notice it when it is plugged in.

With the guitar not plugged in sitting in my lap, it has BIG tone comapred to almost every other guitar I own - if I can just get rid of the truss buzz

The buzz isn't a killer but just a bit annoying when playing unplugged.

Re: Prestige Trio shot

Thanks.

I was lucky. The GC I bought it from (online used section) had it listed as an RGT3120 which was $500 less than the RGT3020 *when they were new) and then they knocked another $150 off the price for me and included a case for shipping. I feel like I stole it

The top is nice, I guess I'm not too suprised that the top isn't too thick but I am suprised that it matches nicely since I've seen alot of Ibby tops not book match very nicely and have crap flames.

Re: Prestige Trio shot

Tell us how you really think Sam101 (just messing with ya bro )

Thanks guys. I'm in drool city with the RGT - I ALMOST traded Elvis (7VWh) for a new RGT320 and a week later I nabbed this at a fraction of what the RGT320 and Jem7VWh sells for. I'm glad I waited, now I have an RGT AND I still have Elvis

Its more likely that you would be hearing sympathetic notes from behind the nut, than the truss rod itself. Perhaps though your trossrud nut is loose on the threads? Check and just make sure that its on and not just spinning around.

IF the truss rod checks out okay, you could look into muting the headstock behind the nut, using foam, black tape or whatever suits you. I personally mute some of my guitars behind the locking nut as the sympathetic rining i hear drives me crazy sometimes. Often have to mute the springs as well *vai does this on evo quite a bit* with tissue paper

Re: Prestige Trio shot

It actually was fine until I adjusted it. The neck had too much relief in it and when it was tightened and heavier strings added, it stared buzzing, not like a note but a real buzz type vibration. I'm baffled

I can hold the headstock while plucking a note that is known to cause the "vibration/buzz" and put just a tiny bit of pressure on it and it went away until I let go of the headstock.

Re: Prestige Trio shot

Its possible the trussrod might have a serious issue. This isnt normal. You might want to hve it looked it. IF you can live with it though why bother.

Re: Prestige Trio shot

That's kinda where I'm at - I can live with it as it seems to do it's job and isn't getting worse and I can only imagine the expense to have it dealt with. Thanks for the helpful ideas though
