Question about Mahogany

Actually, these idea / question come after i read topic: Basswood vs Mahogany w/maple top! which is better?

here is my question:
1. why they use maple on top? is it to make it brighter? because some people said mahogany sounds dark / maybe muddy. or just for the cosmetic?

2. if it solid mahogany, will the floating bridge make it sound less bright / clear sound? errr... sustain will lost a little bit with floating bridge right?

i love mahogany on Gibson SG and never try it on Ibanez.

its always a matter of personal taste, but i have two ibanez with mahogany, i love it! and even one 7 string (rg2027xvv) which sounds great! (after replacing the bridge pick up ;-) )
the other is an S-serie, S2120xav...

of course it will also depend on whcih amp you use...
