Question about neck thickness on RG prestige

I have the RG1570 lefty model. The neck feels incredibly thin and was wondering what the "specs" are on that neck?

Re: Question about neck thickness on RG prestige

Go to any of the Ibanez websites other than USA (like Australia) and go to the 1570 guitar and they have the neck dimensions there.

Re: Question about neck thickness on RG prestige

none have the 1570L...the lefty model...is it the same as the 1570?

My neck feels more like a "super wizard" the real thin neck instead of the regular prestige wizard. Is it possible guitar necks can vary in thickness even among same models?

It's the same as the righty 1570, I believe it's 18mm/20mm. Check Ibanez website or go to Ibanez Rules and Rich will have the spec's.

Re: Question about neck thickness on RG prestige

Andrew.

The specs on Ibanez site are what the necks are supposed to be, but sometimes can you get necks that are a bit thinner or a bit thicker. Most of the time are the neck following the specs, but it can vary up to 1mm either way, and I have necks that varies even more, but Ibanez says that is impossible

What I'm saying is that you can get 10 guitars of the exact same model, and the neck will be a bit different on some of them. It is the same for all guitar makers.

And also, there are no specific “prestige” neck size. Ibanez makes many different size prestige necks.

Aren't their necks done on CNC? Seems strange that they can vary that much.

I don't really know how they are made.
But the do have that difference for a neck to go through controll, 1mm either way.

Here is the exact answer I got from Ibanez in Japan when I asked about it after getting a very thick neck on a RG1527, way more then 1mm to thick (if I remember correctly was it 2.5mm thick then specs). I also ask these questions to have real and good answers for clinics, when people ask. Because there are so many myths floating around about everything concerning Ibanez, so I like to have my information from the maker themselfs.

"Thank you for the message.
The neck of RG1527 is "3pcs Ultra Neck". And the thickness at 1st fret is about 19.0 mm and that at 12th fret is about 21.0 mm ,without counting the height of frets.
The factory always tries keeping our specification. But unfortunately, it's still occasionally possible that there's a little error of the thickness. But in that case, we think that the error would be below +1mm.
All Japanese guitar are inspected before shipment. So, if the error is bigger than 1mm, it should not be shipped."

Seems like yes they do try to keep them the same, but you have to take into account that the necks are sanded by hand in the final stage. Thus making some feel different and sometimes the contour a is off by a hair.

Actually funny quick story, I was at my local GC and I had my 1570 with me. I alway bring my own guitar to try out amps and stuff because there stuff is always set up wrong. Anyways one of the sale guys was talking to a guy about some different guitars and asked if he could show the customer mine. So I handed it over and he proceded to tell the customer that this is an example of what a "shaved" neck done by a luthier looks like. I had to stop him and say no this is what a worn in Ibanez Prestige neck looks like. He then proceeded to play mine and remarked, "Wow this nothing like that other Ibanez over there (an RG370) this thing rocks!" I said thank you and proceded to explain the differance between a prestige and MIK Ibanez like a good Jemsiter would. Needless to say he decided to wait another month and save up for a 1570 of his own.
