Question

RG 1527RB Please, before buy it!!

Guys, you know better than anyone , so:
What do you know about the RG1527 (Prestige 7 Strings) ?
I´m gonna to buy my first Ibanez Guitar (well, my second, my first one is a korean EX model) and I want to buy a good RG model. I dont want to spend more than $1200 too.- I was looking for a 7 strings, with 2 ham.
SO, what can you tell me about the bridge, wood, precision, hams, etc, of this model ?

Thanxs,
Demian

Cool

Re: RG 1527RB Please, before buy it!!

I bought one of these a few months ago. It was my first 7-string, my only previous experience was playing a UV in a guitar shop. Unfortunately, no shops near me had a 1527 so i coudlnt try one out, but i dove in anyway, and was well pleased with the results!

First thing you'll notice is how much heavier it is than a 6 string! It really does add to the weight, also secondly, if your coming from another ibanez, you might find the neck a fair bit thicker than what your used to, i prefered the extra thickness of it, but it does take getting used to.

The neck had a nice smooth, solid feel to it, but the is some jagged edges on the edge of the fretboard on the higher frets (especially compared to my EBMM... but then this was nearly a 3rd of the price).

I have to say when i got the guitar it wasnt set up properly at all (probably the shop's fault, i bet it was sitting in a box for months...), the intontation, trem angle and truss rod were totally off, and it did proove much more difficult to get a stable tuning compred to a 6 string.

When i finally got a stable tuning out of it, i plugged it into my amp to see that the sound was like. With the stock pickups it totally lacked any punch (which is not a massive surpise- i had the 6 string versions of the same pickups on my RG570EX). So i got them replaced with a Blaze in the bridge and Air Norton in the neck. After this change the guitar was transformed! It sounds absolutely brutal! It sounds far crunchier than my EBMM Petrucci sig for rhyhthm playing, although, i did notice, for a good lead sound i needed to up the gain a bit (no probs as i use a BOSS GT-6 pedalboard). The neck pickup sounds pretty much like the standard air norton pickup, although to my ears it had a slightly higher output.

The pickup switching is also great on this model, as ibanez lack a 7 string piezo model at the moment, i wanted something that would handle nice clean sounds, and this thing sure does. In the second position (which is a coil tap on both humbuckers) the clean sound rocks, and with a little tweaking (with some help from my pedalboard) i was getting a genuinly good acoustic sound. The other posision worth mentioning is the 4th, which is the neck humbucker run in parallel, which produces a really thin trebely sound, while i cant see me using it much, it is nice to have, and might come in usefull sometime! The other positions are pretty standard, and you can see them on the ibanez site.

This was my first guitar with the Edge Pro bridge, and i have to be honest, i quite like it! It feels stiffer than my RG570 (because the springs are new.. and it does have and extra string resting on it...) but it felt pretty good, and keeps the tuning well. I did however get the locking stud mod from rich, while it would probably have been fine, i did feel happier knowing that they were locked down!

You will need a heavy amp to get the best out of it (my Marshall AVT-100 wouldnt have been enough without the GT-6 powering it).

Overall im well pleased with this guitar, i would have loved to get a UV, but for the price difference, i didnt feel it would be worth it (especially as its my firsy 7 string). And i prefer a dual humbucker layout anyway.

Hope you find this usefull

I've played a 1527 and its great. I haven't grown used to 7-stringers and thin neck profiles, but the playability is still awesome. And the pickups aren't bad at all.

I'm not big on floating trems on 7 string guitars so I'd personally go with the RG7321 and just upgrade the pickups. I've played a few of them in the store and while they all played pretty much the same, one of them sounded like total crap and the other actually sounded decent. Either way, a change of pickups is definitely necessary. When I finally get mine, I'm going to put a Blaze Custom/Blaze Neck combo in it which should make it sound awesome.

For a fixed bridge 7 I would go with one of these RG7EX's

^ True. But still probably sounds better than a new stock 7321.

I had a 7321 a couple years ago and it had the PNSD humbuckers that really ripped. I really reget selling it because those pickups had a very distinct niche for metal playing. Ibanez changed the pickups now, so if I were to look into a new fixed bridge 7 it would probably be the RG7EX.

Re: RG 1527RB Please, before buy it!!

Easier said than done looking into those RG7EX's seeing as to how they don't make them in the states yet. I don't even know what the price conversion would be, but the stats are identical to the RG7321 except for the EMGs. Since I already have a guitar with EMGs, i'd rather put Dimarzios in my 7 string but if I were to go with EMGs then I'd want an EMG 81-7 in the bridge and an EMG 707 in the neck since the EMG website says that the 707 sounds like an EMG 85.

if you don't care for the trem, just block it from underneath the trem, on both sides, and keep your fine tuners operating.....just my 2 cents

Re: RG 1527RB Please, before buy it!!

Hey guys
Im strongly considering buying a brand new one of the RG1527s if i cant find a second hand Ibanez JPM (cmon guys do you know if anyones selling?). Im a bit worried though that the neck will be uncomfortable on the low B because of the extra width and that my thumb will have to be quite low to get my fingers on the board. im guessing this is completely wrong so how do you guys think they feel to the 6 string prestige wizards? ive got largish sized hands and i own 2 ibanez 6 strings prestiges with wizard necks and they feel really easy to play.

i was going to suggest that you try one at your local retailer, but then i noticed that you're from tasmania, and you guys have like three guitars in total that you share around, right?

Re: RG 1527RB Please, before buy it!!

AHAHA! you know whats really sad? You're right! In hobart we have only one ibanez dealer and the only RG prestiges they have are the RG1570 and the RG2550. So trying them out is out of the question. Oh btw i forgot to mention i play bass as well so im used to fairly large necks. So can anybody help me (my questions are ^^above^^).
