rg 2550 problem
just got my guitar after waiting 2 months.got it set up at my
music store
.brought it home and put the
tremolo arm
on and low and behold it bangs off the volume nob when its spun in and outta place.then i reset my action which brought the tremolo arm closer to the body and of course its still doin it.its like the volume knob is too close or the angle of the trem bar isn't right.either way it sucks.
any suggestions on how to remedy this problem?
i have two icemen and an rg350mdx and never had this problem before

Re: rg 2550 problem
Ah, this is a famous RG2550 gotcha... I have this problem myself, and have heard of countless other 2550 users who suffer the same problem.
Personally I've just learned to live with it by moving the arm round slightly so it doesn't hit the volume pot, but you could raise the action a little and see if that helps.
Quite annoying!

Re: rg 2550 problem
The neck needs a shim.
Your music store should be able to do that.

Re: rg 2550 problem
Maybe the trem angle is incorrect? You have set the trem up to be flat (when compared to the body), right?

Re: rg 2550 problem
Hey,
If the bar is just clipping the pot, just lower the pot a bit. There should be a little screw on the knob, turn that a little and it should drop.
Hope you can sort it out 2550 brother!

Re: rg 2550 problem
It can also clip the 5-way if it's in the middle position.
Tighten trem spring tension to pull the arm back slightly, or shim the neck.

Yes it is. If the neck is raised out of the body a little bit (shimmed) then you can raise the bridge and the bar will not hit the vol knob. Problem solved.
I had the same thing happening on my RG 20th. I increased the spring tension to angle the bridge back a little, and that cured the problem. I don't like shims, but that's just one way of solving the issue he's having.

Re: rg 2550 problem
Yea, I think everyone has this problem with the 2550s. I had the same thing. The quickest and easiest solution is to loosen the set screw on the side of the volume knob and then lower the volume knob slightly by pushing down on it. Then tighten the set screw again and your problem will be solved.
I don't know why this is particular to the 2550. I haven't seen it on another one yet.

That may be the quickest and easiest thing to ''resolve'' the issue, but that doesn't mean it's the correct way. I was having the same issue with my 2550, read the post about the trem angle and remember reading about it on Ibanezrules.com. I went back to Ibanezrulze.com and studied this article...
http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/angle.htm
I fixed this very issue by Rich's suggestions (Thanks Rich!) and got everything lined up with no
neck shim
, no swapping out the volume knob or lowering it...now this thing plays and sounds great!
I probably have about 1/4'' clearance now!
One thing to note though....you may have to raise the action slightly to get back the same feel as you did before. I didn't like the thought of raising the action either but when I studied the old trem angle and thought about the lower action with the lifted trem, leveling the trem flat put the strings much closer to the
fret board
(makes sense when you think about it)...once I thought about it and raised the action, I was a happy camper!
All I can say is, line everything up like Rich says...and if you still have issues, THEN start thinking about neck shims and any other changes.

Sounds like your problem
was
the trem angle. Mine was perfect, so my only real problem was the
trem arm
hitting the volume knob.

Re: rg 2550 problem
hey thanks for all your responses.i finally posted some pics.let me know if they're not helpful and i'll take more.
if ya look closely you'll see the trem bar resting right atop the volume knob.
the trem is level.
action is low.i've lowered it since i brought it home but was still touching after initial set up.
it was set up without trem bar on at the shop
