RG 3120,hands down the best toned RG?

I have 4 Rg's all of them are basswood,i have only heard about the rg 3120 that it has superior sustain and chunk over these other rg's.
To those that own both,is there a major difference in tone?

Chunk doesnt allways mean best tone. Mahogany isnt for everyone which is what the 3120 is made from, coupled with the pickups will give you a certain sound. ITs just thats what you like, since tone is a subjective thing anyways. You can get a similar tone from a 520 or 620 with the same pickups in it

Well even though i love my rg's,i feel they all are a bit too thin sounding and one has a tone zone in it!
I was told that the 3120 is is the way top go IF you love a RG but want more meat to it?

the only reason its that different is it has a mahogany body which has ALOT more bottom end than a basswood rg
Besides the t3120 sounds better than that one anyway

I played one last time when I bought a new amp.
It felt stiff somehow, Jems feel vibrant and resonant, basswood moves more I think. The Mahogany felt heavy and stiff, It didn't really feel alive.
It's quite difficult to explain

Hmm, I always felt the opposite. It always seemed to me that the softness of basswood absorbed the vibration of the strings and it made te body seem less vibrant than the harder mahogany. Different strokes for different folks

I'd have to agree the the T3120 sounds better than the regular 3120 because of the neck-thru joint and the thicker neck.

There is such a thing as a dead body. basically if a given guitar has been mass produced you will run across a total lemon. So it is feasable to run across two completely different woods that sound the same

I finally got to play one on staurday and MAN! I have to get one!
It is a LOT different than the stock 500 series even UNPLUGGED!

the rgt3120 is the shiz-nittle-snip-snap-snadwich. i definitely prefer it over the rg3120. the rg3120 is a great axe, tho. i just prefer the neck thru over the bolt on. the ultra is more an all around style neck. it reminded me of the jpm and rbm necks i love. a tad more condusive for chord shapes than the wizard is, but both are awesome, i just feel the rgt3120 is more solid(at least mine is) than the rg3120.

I think alot depends what you play through as well.When I switched to all tube gear I noticed huge differences in tone between pickups and body woods.I have3-3120's all with different pickups,tz,evo and ss.Overall I prefer the evo in mahogony,the tz works also,the ss is not for me.I also got some super smooth lead tones out of a duncan custom 5 in a s-540(mahogony).Ultimately your ears must be the judge. mike

i own many rg's and i have played my friends RG3120, and it was quite heavy but it sounded great, but i think i like my RG 570 better. There is just something about it.

I've got a 3120 and a 570. The 570 is the way to go when I'm looking for "Stratish" tones. It has a spongier tone and feel than the 3120, though it's got more chunk than my swamp ash body Strat.

The best RG? All a matter of opinion, of course, but I really like mine! Heavier, warmer tone than the basswood RG's ;-)
