RG J-Customs vs. Custom Shop Gibson
Well i really need to know i live in Europe and they sell only 2 J-customs each two in a different colors. But hey every guitarist might want a Gibson Lespaul so i seriously needs some facts and opinions which is better and everything. So i was wondering if i should get a gibson or a j-
custom ibanez
guitar???? Very hard choice since these suckers are like 2 grand lol and im not really that rich either buying 2 grands of guitars every month or so.

Re: RG J-Customs vs. Custom Shop Gibson
This is one of those questions that really comes down to personal perference. Play them both and see which one you like better and buy that one. They are both great guitars.
Personally since I absolutely love my J-Custom RG8670 I'd say get the Ibanez, but that's my personal preference and this IS an Ibanez forum after all
(Then again I'd tell you to look for a used 8670 as opposed to the current J-Customs)

Re: RG J-Customs vs. Custom Shop Gibson
I'd get a J-Custom hands down. All in all it's just a more versatile guitar compared with an LP.

Re: RG J-Customs vs. Custom Shop Gibson
I traded a
Les Paul Custom
for J-Custom.. so my vote goes to a J-Custom.

I'd choose a j-custom over the
les paul
, only because I like
floating trems
.

J Custom. Of course, if you go to a Gibson forum they'll tell you to buy the LP. You're just gonna hafta play both and decide. Disappointing news, I'm sure.

JC as well for me..
Les Pauls
even there higher end arent as nice in woods, playability, tone, and hardware.
If you were to get a les paul it better be a old one.

Re: RG J-Customs vs. Custom Shop Gibson
You have to ask yourslf what you're gonna use the guitar for.
A gibson is of absolutely no use to me whatsoever, so 50 quid for one would be a waste of cash, a j-custom on the other hand i would jump at. However if you see yourself using it enough to justify the spends then go for it, but since you already own an RG wouldn't a J-custom make more sense?
My vote is always gonna be the J-custom

Re: RG J-Customs vs. Custom Shop Gibson
Get the rope ready....
I'd go Les Paul, I like Ibanez alot, my first real guitar was an Ibanez and have owned many throughout the years and had very good experiences with all of them except the very first one. They have never let me down they always sound and played great. I currently own 1 Ibanez and have had a Jem, a Universe, an early 80s Destroyer 2, I currently have an S540 LTD that I have had longer than any other guitar and I would go with the CS LP.
I have found that Les Pauls are the perfect guitar for me, I currently own 4.
I love set necks, fixed bridges, prefer 22 frets to 24, I can work with only 2 humbuckers, they play great and I think that Les Pauls are the perfect visual guitars, especially with the open book headstock.
WHich is better? That's for you to decide and I hate giving that answer, but you know what kind of guitar you need and what each offers.

Re: RG J-Customs vs. Custom Shop Gibson
mmmm - very different guitars - depends on your preference and what you want to play - the timber used on new Gibsons is actually pretty good - the current
Les Paul Standard
and Standard Plus(?) have really nice Flamed Maple tops and light Mahogany backs and necks, along with a good Nitrocellulose finish - much better than any Les Paul from the seventies or eighties (Gibson's VERY dark years under Norlin ownership - 99% of Les Pauls from this period were horrible horrible guitars!) - based on my experience as a JEM owner, if you don't use trem, I'd avoid anything with
locking trems
, they are a pain in the fundament!
Cheers
David

Re: RG J-Customs vs. Custom Shop Gibson
oh, yeah, and if you come down on the side of Les Pauls, you owe it to yourself to try the
PRS McCarty
- having owned a
Custom Shop
'57 reissue (too heavy, didn't stay in tune, sounded fantastic) and now owning a PRS Custom 22 Soapbar (lighter, prettier, incredibly well built, stays in tune superbly AND has THREE P90s - how cool!!!!), personally I think PRS are a better instrument - certainly they are the reason new Gibsons are considerably better than the ones I mentioned before - PRS scared the living daylights out of Gibson!
