RG1520GK vs RG1520GBP

I'm looking to get a new RG1520. I was wondering what the difference between the GK and the GBP is. It looks like I would have to special order this model from my local guitar center, they dont keep this one instock, I would also like to know what price I should expect to pay for the RG. Also I was wondering if ibanez will release any new roland ready models in the near future....

Thanks

Re: RG1520GK vs RG1520GBP

I don't think that they're very different, as they both are Roland GK equipped. As for the price, I'm thinking of the $1000 range, but I think Eric from Eric's Guitars will give you a better deal. Or, if you're willing to pay a bit extra, consider Ibanez Rules. Rich's setup os one of the moust sought after in this community.

Re: RG1520GK vs RG1520GBP

I THINK there are a few differences. If memory serves me rightly, the GK was the '03-'04 model but it may have been introduced earlier. This model has larger neck inlay dots and if it's the same as my '03 1527 it uses a 3-piece neck with a scarf joint. I have an '05 1520GBP, and it has the nicer small inlay dots and a 5-piece neck with a volute instead of a scarf joint. I'm just making an informed guess on the neck of the '03 by the way.
Electronically I think they're identical.
It's a sweet guitar and FAR FAR superior to my other synth guitar, my Fender Roland-Ready MIM Strat.
I hope this helps.

Re: RG1520GK vs RG1520GBP

Do you think the gbp is worth the extra money over the gk? I have found a new gk for 300 less then a new gbp. Are these guitars equal in sound quality?

Thanks

$300 cheaper? Jump on that deal dude, and buy it a.s.a.p.! The differences between the models are minimal at best and that sounds like a great price.

Re: RG1520GK vs RG1520GBP

My Jem came with D'addario's out of the box (literally out of the box). The gauge was lite, 009 - 042.

hope that helps.

Re: RG1520GK vs RG1520GBP

So you got the GBP model. I thought you ordered the GK? I was almost hoping you did get the older one so you could tell us if it has a volute or scarf.
So how do you like the guitar? Personally I love mine. Also, with what piece of gear do you use the synth output? I'm just curious, it seems that only a few of us own this model.

Re: RG1520GK vs RG1520GBP

I originally ordered the GK but to my advantage they sold the last closeout to someone else, after I already paid for the GK. So they had to sell me the GBP for $50 more then the GK. I ended up paying $808 for the GBP. I haven’t purchased the Roland gi-20 yet but when I do I will be using it with the fantom xr and motif. Man this guitar is smooth!!!
