RG1527 vs RG7/UV

Hey guys. i just got a new job which will allow me to spend money on most of the music equipment i really want. First is a new 7 string (or 8 string maybe). The other day i tried out a Rg1527. It could of done with a proper set up really, but it was playable, the neck felt pretty comfortable and the stock pickups didn't sound too bad. I'm also on the look out for other 7 strings. 2 i have in mind are the Universe and RG7. How do these compare to the RG1527? are they similar in feel and sound?

I've never played a 1527 but an RG 7620 makes a great first 7-string. They are affordable too and worth it.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7/UV

The 1527 is basically a newer version of the 7620, without the Dimarzio pups. I tries one a couple of months back, and it felt nice. Sound was nice too, especially when you're nailing those chunky low-end riffs. As for the UV, I've never tried one before. But think about this, it's a Jem with an added lower B string.

if you can afford a UV then get one cos its the best of the lot! otherwise a well set up 1527 is well worth the cash. ive never played any other RG7s but would reccomend the 1527 in a heartbeat! change of pups and its well good!

Re: RG1527 vs RG7/UV

One thing about the UV is that the Blazes have scooped mids. Vai uses a prototype UV in Passion and Warfare, so if you like that sound, by all means get it. For the amount that I would have to pay for a UV, I shouldn't expect any pickup changes.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7/UV

I love the sound of my PWH. I like the all access neck joint on my 7620s though. I also have my S 7420 stock. I know some guys that modded their 7420s because they didn't care for the pickups. I actually like them.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7/UV

I think some would say that the build quality of the RG1527 is just as good as the UV's, so if you want to save yourself some money go with the RG and upgrade the pups. They are different animals though, the UV is has the H-S-H config while the RG has the H-H config.

I don't like the colours of the RG1527 which we have in England.

I didn't think the colour was too bad really, but it would be nicer to have more colour options

Re: RG1527 vs RG7/UV

I just checked the Ibanez website and noticed they have them in Royal Blue over here now. I didn't like the grey colour very much.

This looks really nice -

Re: RG1527 vs RG7/UV

The neck is a little different on UVs though. UV has a fatter neck.
Clean sound in UV sounds better than the RGs but I think the sound on distortion, RG can bring out the better sounding (hear the notes more clearly).

just my ideas man.

here's the one i played at machine head, pretty nice.

I'm also interested in the RG1077XL, hard to come by over here though, i've only seen one guitarist use one live and it looked great

Re: RG1527 vs RG7/UV

The Japanese section of the Ibanez site has the current 1527 available in 2 colours, namely Royal Blue and Galaxy Black. Ishibashi can export them for much the same price as we pay in the UK. I was gonna get one in Galaxy Black, but I already have a Black Pearl 1527. Can't say how it compares to a UV, sorry.

Re: RG1527 vs RG7/UV

I've played a 1527 in a music store and I really loved the neck, I didn't play it long enough to tell you about the sound. I much prefer the AANJ on the larger neck though. I have a UV7BK and I've thought about getting rid of it for a 1527 (or similar) for the extra cash and AANJ. I've never owned a Jem and would like to one of these days, the extra cash from the UV would help with that.
