Re: RG1550 and RGT42
With those mods, I'd say the RGT is actually the better option. Certain things about the 1550 will have been better from the factory, but assuming both guitars have had fretwork done since he's owned them, the neck profiles will be very similar and there'll be no difference between the fretwork.
As for korean guitars, I've had no problems with korean stuff, the RGTs are pretty good in fact. The only things I'd change in terms of longevity, have already been replaced by the owner. I'd enjoy one with stainless steel frets, but ibanez don't make anything with SS frets, so its an academic difference.

Re: RG1550 and RGT42
Hey,
I used to live in Malaysia. They have a pretty nice Ibanez collection over at Bentley in KL. I'd personally recommend the RGT in this case. Neck-thrus are always really fun and comfortable to play. Especially the Ibanez RGTs.

Use fretdoctor on it. my S2170FW is korean rosewood and fretdoctor is without doubt the best thing I've ever used.

Re: RG1550 and RGT42
hi redaxe,
yeah they're the main dealer in malaysia, bought my first guitar there too
what great about them is they offer good pricing for their product (compare to main rival, ESP/LTD distributor), which makes ibanez become very common here.

Re: RG1550 and RGT42
We have both these guitars hanging in the shop I teach at right now. I'd say go for the RGT but that is purely because I'm a big neckthrough and mahogany guy.
It just basically comes down to whether you care about the Neck Through or not. If you do get the RGT if not get the Prestige.

neck thru is a plus, wont mind having em
the RGT42 also consider rare in malaysia, coz here the only RGT avail is the flat black color with EMG's. i never saw anyone using RGT with binding before o_O
turns out the seller also a forumer here, just found this thread

Re: RG1550 and RGT42
Also, I see the RGT42 is being offered for RM2500. I managed to score a brand new RG1570MRB at Bentley in 2006 for RM3000 (came with a lot of case candy like straps, picks and replacement strings too). If I were you I'd try for that, but strictly between these two options above, I'd still recommend the RGT42.
And you're right about Ibanez in Malaysia- they blow the competition out of the water in terms of pricing, and hey, they're pretty badass guitars in themselves.
Happy guitar hunting! I hope you find what you need.

Re: RG1550 and RGT42
Oh my fingerboard looks great! I have an sz320 as well so Im firmiliar with the korean models. The Rgt is in wonderful shape, its a 2003. The I believe second year they made them. It came with the edge 2 bridge that year and was black pearl in color so it is made out of basswood and not mohogany. Not even any deep scratches anywhere on it.

i just called the RGT owner, the price is still negotiable, he offered me rm2300, quite cheap.
rm3000 for an RG1570? that's cheap man, now they already mark up the price, rm3699 before disc.

Re: RG1550 and RGT42
I'd personally go for the 1550. Love the feel of edge pro compared to anything else.
Hmmm, RM2300 is cheap for you, kaya sial...
