RG1570

I honestly never thought I'd be in the position I am. In a nutshell, I played a RG1570 yesterday, and it blows my Jackson out of the water in many ways, and yet it' about the same price... I'm strongly considering selling my Jackson and possibly a few other things and buying that amazing guitar. I'm even willing to deal with the Mirage Red paint job (it's a lot less boring than the black/grey of the new RGR1570, even though I dig the reversed headstock).



Somehow, this model was able to solve all the problems I have with my Jackson DK2M, which include:

-obnoxious large heel
-oh-so terrible trem system
-general playability

What's the general JEMsite consensus on this model?

Also, what exactly separates the Prestige series from regular Ibanezes?

Better cuts of wood, Edge Pro Trem as opposes to the cheap Edge III, Better pickups, Wizard neck as opposed to a Wizard II, made in Japan instead of Indonesia, or Korea


I briefly owned a 1570 earlier this year. Its an amazing guitar, I miss it, but I got an American Strat out of the trade, so I'm quite content. Be careful with the finish, its very thin and chip easily.

Yeah, I'm told that basswood guitars dent easily, but I'm not rough with my babies anyway

You know honestly, with all the bad stuff I heard about basswood in other forums, I didn't think it would sound so good.

Do it, I got rid of my DK2 for the same reason (that and I needed money anyways), only thing I liked about the Jackson was the neck.

Why change the neck? I bought a 1570 in February and I am lovin' it. It's versatile, I dig the Edge Pro alot....everything about it is great....ESPECIALLY THE NECK!

Well I love the neck, I wouldn't want to change the size or shape or anything like that. But if there was one available with a maple fretboard I probably wouldn't think twice

I don't believe Ibanez makes a Prestige neck with a maple board on it. I could be wrong though...and it's early yet, but I don't think they've made one. However, you could take it to a luthier and have them put a maple board on it for you and personalize your inlay markers. It may be worth it to you to do that. Would definitely look awesome!

I'd consider a 2OTH or a used PGM and put a trem in it (?)

I've got a 2006 Rg1570 in MRR, and it's a great guitar. I think it's one of the better guitars of it's type in that pricerange.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the Ibanez V8 bridge pickup. I found it to be suited to blues and rock, but I wanted a high gain/metal sound so I swapped it for a Seymour Duncan Invader and it beefed up the tone nicely

It might also be worth checking out the Rg2550E and RG2570E. They are basically the same guitar with different finish and Dimarzio/ibz pickups, but they cost slightly more.

The 20th RG's are also close to that pricerange too, and as Chimp said, they have the maple fretboard. They also play like a dream

In general, Prestige models offer many improvements over the less expensive Korean, Indonesian and Chinese manufactured guitars. If you havn't already, check out the Ibanez website for more info.

The only downside to my RG1570 Mirage Blue was that the pickup cavities didn't like the Evolutions that I put in it,but, with a dremel tool and a steady hand you can trim the 3'' X 1/2'' woodblock that's mounted to the bottom of the pickup cavity
