RG1570 - No nut on back near headstock
Hi all : - )
I was wondering if it's normal that near the nut on the back of the neck I have no 2 holes which I guess are used for tightening the
locking nut
brace?
(I've seen heaps of pics where these 2 holes are, and my mates first style
root beer Jem
has them) :-s
Do I just tighten it from the front?
Is it any loss not having them?
Thanks

Re: RG1570 - No nut on back near headstock
imo the only "loss" i can see in not having them(rear mounted nut screws) is the ability to develop those annoying cracks at the screw holes.

Re: RG1570 - No nut on back near headstock
basically the new "design" means that in an already weak area of the neck you're not removing even more wood and making it even weaker........
String pressure will hold the nut in place
All you need is one or two small screws just to stop the nut moving side to side and stop it falling off when you're re-stringing.......
It beggers beleif why they didn't do it 2 decades ago.......???

Re: RG1570 - No nut on back near headstock
yeah, what they said. I had an old RG320... I think... That just snapped right at that part on the neck... some moron tightened it too much at the store or something, probably, and stressed it. Ibanez is the last manufacturer to change it, as far as I know. My 2 Jacksons, my LTD, and my Schecter all have the "new" type, but my RG570 and RG2027 both have the old style. I wonder why they didn't do it sooner.

The top mount design sucks donkey balls. Too much North South stresses on a double locker and sooner or later it will start to oval the screw holes and loosen the nut. Then you have a repair job. The heavier
gauge strings
and more you use the trem the quicker you'll develop a problem. I've had 3 to deal with used so far. String pressure does not keep a nut in place. Take out the screws or mounting bolts, with the pads locked down use the bar and tell me how long your nut sits in place.

Thru-mount + volute = winner.

i'm very disappointed to hear abt the problems you're encountering(i've never had a top mount with that problem, and i've had a few). maybe ibanez should use threaded inserts? top mounted lock nuts are not a new thing, and are not that hard to do correctly.

Re: RG1570 - No nut on back near headstock
Threaded inserts would be a good idea, but I can't see this happening. They took away the locking screws on trem posts, presumably to cut costs, so inserts for the
lock nut
seems unlikely.

yeah. true. i thought of that right after i posted. if any of mine end up loose i'll just have inserts installed. honestly i'm not too worried, like i said i've had great luck with them. my esps have top mount and are doing just fine and they are over 10 years old.

Re: RG1570 - No nut on back near headstock
weird, i've almost always had problems with back mount nuts. they actually move back and forth during trem use, no matter how you tighten'em, messing up the tuning big time, and leading many players to replace the trem without solving the problem, even in sparkling new Ibys. no problems with top mount nuts yet.

Mr Tak Hosono told us that an engineer on Ibanez said people break these
locking studs
, not knowing they were there. Once again, not us, the hardcore badass Ibanez players, but new players and such. That's why they took them off.
Back to topic..

that's one of the reasons. the other is cost cutting. a good idea to solve the problem is to sell guitars with unlocked locking studs: newbie wouldn't damage anything yet the Ibanez freaks like us would have the chance to lock'em down.

Re: RG1570 - No nut on back near headstock
Thanks for the input guys.
I've had no problems with the guitar I just asked out of curiosity as I'd never seen it before on Ibanez gits.
BTW your trick by placing a flathead screwdriver in between the pads to eliminate flat & sharps when tightening the nuts down is genius Nuno
Cheers :-D
