rg1570 tuning problems
hey, i just got an Ibanez rg1570, and love it. But i'm having problems w/ it staying in tune. I've gotten it in tune, and then tightened the nuts on the top of the neck (pretty freakin tight). It's fine for a while, but if i use the whammy too much or too hard, it goes way out of tune. I thought that it was supposed to stay in tune for a decently long time even with heavy use of the whammy. Is there something that i'm doing wrong? or do i have to also adjust/lock something else?
thanks

Re: rg1570 tuning problems
First off DON"T OVERTIGHTEN THE NUT SCREWS! You don't want to strip those. Just a nice quick (moderately firm) turn of the hand should be tight enough to hold those strings in place, plus if you do it quickly it doesn't alter the tuning as much. Make sure the strings are fully stretched, put some chapstick on the knife edges. After you get it all ready and locked down again, give a bunch of good up and downs on the bar ending with a full dive. Then a fine tune should be all you need and it should be pretty stable.

Re: rg1570 tuning problems
what exactly do you mean by knife edges? and i stretched the strings and everything as well. Most of the strings are fine after using the whammy (maybe slightly flat or sharp depending on whether i bombed or pulled, but all uniform), but the G string keeps going flat. After just one bomb and pull it's almost a whole half step flat. I'm not sure why or what i need to do about it. thanks again...

Re: rg1570 tuning problems
The knife edges are what the spot on the trem where it pivots. I like to abuse the trem a bit (not locked down), then retune, lockdown, abuse it again, and then fine tune.

Re: rg1570 tuning problems
thanks, i tried that, and it works for all the strings besides the G string. Third string in from the High E string. Is it because the clamp has to hold two different sized strings so the smaller G string slips?

Re: rg1570 tuning problems
tighten the screw in the saddle of the g string, the string is possibly slipping.

Re: rg1570 tuning problems
Check the tech section in Rich's website,
www.ibanezrules.com
, can be a multitude of causes, some fairly interesting.
I had tuning difficulties a while back, it turned out my springs seemed to have developed a memory because I hadn't used the trem in months. A good shred soon sorted that out
