RG2550z mods finally done

ok i know this probably doesn't deserve a thread but i won't be posting a "NGD" thread anytime soon (goddamit man, ibanez's don't grow on trees) so this will do.

so i wanted to turn my ugly rg2550z into a jem777vkb lookalike kind of thing but without the vine obviously. so i got a black pickguard off the bay, knobs off ibanezfreak777, green tone zone off...amazon.com? and recently bought a VBK pickup set off rich (couldn't buy em single...anyone want a green paf pro...?)

finally installed the neck paf pro and the jem single today after a lot of head scratching and rewiring. i think it looks awesome.

the paf pro sounds awesome, so much better than the stock dimarzio/ibz. slightly more aggressive, a bit bassier and generally rougher around the edges. fast picking sounds way cooler on it, you can tell why gilbert likes it. the jem single also has more midrange than the standard dimarzio/ibz one. very cool stuff. anyway, pics.

Yum!

The sparkly black and lime green combo is particularly impressive. Quite 80's.

Thumbs-up from me!

Looks great!!!! I have been looking about on **** for some dimarzios to go in my 2550. I already have paf pros in my pgm so i might give it a try with the crunch lab and liquifire.

The stock pickups are very harsh. They remind me of the ceramic pickups that come in gibson explorers but obviously without the mahogany body back it up

I think I'm gonna put some PAF pro pickups in mine too, which colour pickup will match the white one? I'm just gonna gonna go with two humbuckers, I never use the single coil...

after replacing the pups, i've found they're very kind of plain and don't have much character to them; they seem to be designed to function semi-well in lots of different genres. the stock bridge pickup is very bright and brittle, so i like the tone zone because of it's bassiness.

as for the colours pumpkin, someone else here went with zebra buckers and it looked very nice.

oh yeah, vim also deserves a special mention for helping me heaps with the wiring of my tone zone and replacing the volume and tone pots on the guitar. was my first wiring job.

I think you might be spot on there with the description of the stock pickups. Ibanez are most probably trying to cater for every style unlike dimarzio who are making pickups for specific needs.

mmm. i was considering actually buying an original edge and a new solid black RG body but...too much effort, not worth it. it's not that bad.
