Rg3120

I noticed on Rich's site that he has the RG3120 marked as discontinued. Also that it doesn't seem to appear on the Ibanez website.

Would this explain the several "new" examples on the 'bay at low prices - is there a store somewhere selling these cheap?

I know the latest 3120 is a bit of a downgrade from the earlier ones ("real" versus IBZ pickups, offset dots...) but I have a hankering right now for one of those natural finish ones.

Yes. The 3120 is now gone.
I have also noticed a surge on the bay. There is a NOS 2003 RG3120TW on there right now.

Re: RG3120 Discontinued?

i wound up buying a new RG3120F-ANT off the 'bay at a seemingly crazy low price. but it could just be that some store was blowing them out ultra cheap recently.

either way, looking forward to it.

RG3120 Arrived!

okay, my new 3120 arrived today. so in keeping with the rules, here are some quick pics:

(the rest are linked to save the sanity of dial-up users - does anyone still use dial-up??)

what i found interesting was the finish. i wasn't entirely sure what to expect, and there seems to be very little information. it's a thinner, flatter finish than i was expecting - unusual for an ibanez and a nice change from their usual inch-thick poly!

also, this guitar has metal control covers. sweet!

still got some dialling in to do with the set-up, but so far it's another very welcome addition to my family!

wow damo7v ,that's just lovely, i prefer flamed tops over quilted tops all the way.
Congratulations!

Re: RG3120 Discontinued?

thanks!

what i like about this top is that it's fairly subtle. it's supposed to be a AAA, but with the natural finish, it doesn't pop out like those that have been dyed.

i do love a nice quilt, though. every second guitar has a flamed top - quilts are just slightly less common.

Re: RG3120 Discontinued?

cheers guys.

even the wife likes this one, which is saying something.

i think i'll change the pickups out before long, but only so i don't feel any new-vs-old-version stigma.
