Your RG8427 and HRG4 pics - reverse headstock 7s?

Anyone out there with an RG8427 or HRG4 mind posting some pics of their fine instruments?!

I've got the 7 string itch and need a big brother to my JCRG5; not sure if I should get a BX so it's not too similar...

I think I saw a posting saying the quilt on the HRG4s wasn't all that well defined. Is that true?

Some q's too...

1) the HRG4 as a flat black headstock? not quilted to match?
2) and it doesn't have a bound fretboard?

Thanks in advance for your pics!

Re: RG8427 and HRG4 pics

Thanks for that nikt! The HRG4 pics are the ones of the Ikebe site, right? I should've said "non-stock pics" lol

Gotta say, lack of binding on the HRG4 puts me off a bit!

I recently had a USRG30 customized by Rich Fay (see ads at top of page!): reverse neck (off an RG5EX), matching headstock, coloured sharksooth inlays, EMGs. I guess what I want a 7 string something like this!

Check it out, the last piccy on this page:

(Rich, hope you don't mind me linking to the site? If you prefer I can upload load a copy of the piccy somewhere!)

Re: RG8427 and HRG4 pics

all pix were from ikebe

I think that RG8427 is a better option. it's cheaper and have some more details in finish that I personally like a lot. plus the Titanium reinforcement bar

You pay less and You recive more. what to think more about

PS: I dig that reverse headstock on Your USRG

Re: RG8427 and HRG4 pics

REVERSE HEADSTOCKS RULE! Gonna have to find out how much it'd be to commission a 7 string reverse neck \m/

I'm more of a quilt person than a flame person, but yeah, the HRG4 seems to be losing this one.

The FE/VV style 8427s have a slight two-tone burst thing going... but the black ones seem straight flat one colour. Wasn't there a black 7 string like that, fading to gray towards the centre? JCRG7 maybe??

Re: RG8427 and HRG4 pics

Has no one got any pics of theirs then?? They not particularly popular then? Thought they'd go like hot cakes.

Am having bad thoughts about getting an RG8327 and butchering it up. Ahem. I mean customizing it...

Re: RG8427 and HRG4 pics

Cheers Rich! Now that's what I'm talking about! - a Sweet bit of quilt there.

Does the quilt on these only show up so nicely under bright lights? Presumably because it's a truly black quilt, which isn't all that common. At least, I've not seen any other manufacturers guitars with such a black quilt on it.

Does that mean the Ikebe pictures just poorly taken then??

I can just see that with a reverse headstock on it

You'll never see the figure under BX in a pic without flash. It's more visible to the naked eye but the brighter the light the better you'll see it.

Re: RG8427 and HRG4 pics

Right, I see. Does the same apply for the 8427BX then? Or not quite so deep black?

Sounds like I probably want an RG8527 in that case. I'm guessing by that logic these look a bit darker in real life than pics of these suggest?

TBK is a burst, BX isn't.

Yes, darker in real life. Less grey and more brown than that pic suggests, and it's subtler change from deep brown edges to a lighter brown in the centre - definitely wouldn't describe it the RG8527 as black. Perfect match for a dark rosewood fretboard.
