rg8470 or rg8670?

So i was wondering which one is better? Even tho they the same i see some specs are different. By the way i also got questions....

Whats that velvet touch, as i saw in some pics i think the back of the headstock is glossy looking?

Bundinga stripes holds the neck straight or not? Or does the titanium reinforcment due better?? Was wondering...

Thanks if you guys can help me, cuz i dont want to waste 3000 dollars on a guitar that isnt something i might not want on compared to the same brand/name/serial and with different line ups (2005 and 2006 models for example).

Re: rg8470 or rg8670?

The velvet touch thing is really just a sanded/oiled neck. All other ibanez models(including prestiges and previous J-Customs) all have some bit of lacquer on them.

Can't quite comment on the Titanium reinforcement being better or not as the necks on ym RG8670's haven't shifted at all yet.

Realistically it's the same guitar either way, just get what you can get. Trying to get an RG8670 nowadays isn't as easy as it was last year so you may be better off getting an RG8470.

Re: rg8470 or rg8670?

I assume the velvet touch is just another oil finish. The prestige neck finish on all the jems and older j customs is great. Ibanez probably just gave it a cooler name. 8670's have ebony fretboards unlike the newer models that all have rosewood. Ebony is usually regarded as the better choice so grab an 8670 if you can find one. The 8470's are basically 8270s with matching headstocks and fancier tops. Try and look for a nicely figured 8270 and save some money. The 8270s do have the titanium reinforcement but I doubt neck shifting is a problem. The neck on the current Jem is identical to the 8270 and I haven't heard any shifting complaints.

Re: rg8470 or rg8670?

The neck dimensions are different between the 8270, 8470 and 8670. The 8270 has the standard 2005 prestige neck dimensions. The 8470 is 1mm thinner hence the titanium. The 8670 is about 1mm narrower but about 1.5mm thicker than the 8270 and has two substantial strips of bubinga (a kind of rosewood) which look great and probably contribute to the tone ? The 8670 has an ebony fretboard the others are rosewood - a matter of personal taste- ebony gives a brighter tone, not a better tone imho. It does however make the tree of life inlay stand out very nicely being darker !The 8270 has a striped ebony headstock overlay, the other two flamed maple. The 8270 has no neck binding. If we're talking about the RG8470F as opposed to the RG8470A (which doesn't have neck binding either !! ) then from what I've seen on Japanese websites the tops are very mediocre and the new colours are disappointing, but may look better with better flame tops. The tree of life inlay on the 8470 has more mother of pearl too i.e. the stem. To me the deciding factor would be the quality of the top !!! You pays yer money and makes yer choice.........

The RG8470F does indeed have maple neck binding. At least all the 8470f's I've seen do. (the 8470A's don't though)
